Priceless Dads: Calling the Attention of the World to Fathers
()
About this ebook
Fathers, like mothers, are a great blessing to humanity. However, the world has not really appreciated and celebrated fathers as it ought to. This is because of the wrongful generalization that they are uncaring and unavailable. In Priceless Dad, the author questions this mode of generalization; and calls upon the world to understand the unique things that fathers have contributed to the world.
In it, the author used his father as a case study in how fathers have been of great blessing to their children, and hence by extension to the world.

Introduction
Many have criticized fathers as uncaring and unavailable. Agreeably, there are fathers who have not lived to the desired expectation. This notwithstanding, putting all fathers into the category of uncaring and unavailable
is an unfair and an unacceptable thing to do. The reason is there are fathers who have singlehandedly raised their children. There are others too who, in spite of their busy schedule, have made time for their children. For instance, the history of the Father’s Day celebration is a story of a father who had an unceasing love for his children.
In May of 1909, Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Wash., sat in church listening to a Mother's Day sermon. She decided she wanted to designate a day for her dad, William Jackson Smart. Dodd's mother had died in childbirth, and Dodd's father, a Civil War veteran, had taken the responsibility of singlehandedly raising the newborn and his other five children.
The following year, Dodd wanted to celebrate Father's Day on June 5th, her father's birthday, and petitioned for the holiday to be recognized in her city. Needing more time to arrange the festivities, Spokane’s mayor pushed the date back by two weeks, and the first Father's Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910...
At the first Father's Day celebration, young women handed out red roses to their fathers during a church service, and large baskets full of roses were passed around, with attendees encouraged to pin on a rose in honor of their fathers – red for the living and white in memory of the deceased...[1]
