CHAPTER ONE
Once upon a wasteful night!
He was from a poor family. After graduating from the university, he combed through many companies with his CV and other documents in search for a job. The struggle was on. He was desperate for employment. Despite his efforts, there was no sign of hope. All hopes seemed lost. Nobody seemed to care; but there was one ray of hope: the midnight prayers of his mother.
His mother was constantly praying for him to get a job. She would wake up at night and fight on her knees in prayers to God, pleading with Him (God) for him (her son) to get a decent means of earning a living. God answered her midnight prayers and gave him a job.
He was so happy that finally he had had a means of livelihood. However, few days after he was employed, his midnight-praying mother passed on. The one who was his intercessor was no more. That was a painful experience for John. This was because he loved his mother so much that her death caused him much sorrow.
In a matter of weeks, the funeral was done with; and the family members and sympathizers that came left to their various destinations.
The next week after the funeral, he received his first salary. When he got it, his mood was a mixture of gladness on one hand, and sorrow on the other hand. He was happy because this was his first salary. On the other hand, he was sad because his mother, who interceded for him to have the job, was not around to enjoy with him.
Thus, when night fell, he dressed up, put his salary in his pocket, went to a nearby pub; and with much sorrow in his heart, drunk himself to stupor.
He drunk till it was late in the night. He decided to go home. But there was a big challenge: he was heavily drunk. He began to stagger. He did not know the way out. He staggered and staggered trying to keep his balance.
As he staggered around, he had his bottle of alcohol under his armpit. He judiciously sipped some of its content every now and then. This made him completely drunk; and coupled with the darkness, he could hardly see anything. He managed to move his right leg; he began to shake, and then, he tried his best to move the left leg, but he lost balance and way on the ground by the roadside he fell. He was drunk to the highest level: consequently, he fell asleep in a matter of minutes.
It was in the middle of the night. Every place was dead quiet.
Suddenly, a car pulled up. Guess who the occupants were. Your guess is as good as mine: they were armed robbers. When they saw how gorgeously dressed this man was, they could not continue with their journey. They stopped, and walked to him to see whether they could take as much as they
