Lucky Night in Hell - Steve Combs

    Lucky Night in Hell.

    Steve Combs

    Copyright 2021 Gary Combs

This is a picture of me overlooking my favorite mules ass high in the Sierra deep in the heart of Sin.

    Prolog about me.

We live in southeast Asia near the coast up in the elephant mountains near Kampot.

I again have a family hard to believe , I have a half breed daughter seven years old and a son three and several other children who live with me

I have a mean old wife, much stronger than me .Thank you.

They are my life ,why I'm still here.

    We have a subsistence farm.

However with the plague my extended family is extended .

    Many are unemployed .

    Lots of kilos of rice.

But I so love to see the children come and eat and I give them milk, food and vitamins.

I feel very lucky to be here and able to help these wonderful people.

    I've gotten very healthy here.

    All natural food, all organic.

Hell, the fish are still flopping in the pan in the morning at the market . The fruits of many exquisite types and the vegetables are all fresh.

Years now and have not had one problem with the people .

They love to smile as I do.

Well since they saved my life I figured I owe them mine.

Saying this is a male dominated society is pure bullshit .

My old lady can and has beat the living shit out of me when I deserve it.

The only thing I fear I also dearly love.

I'm sort of forced to live in Paradise with lots of love.

    ain't life a bitch.

    Chapter 1

    The flight line.

    Electrical mechanical functional test

A very interesting challenging job for a young man who still had brains.

They worked me seven days a week 70 hours or more. Outdoors on the flight line Whole winter without a day off not Thanksgiving not Christmas not New-year's. They got back charged one million a day late charge if a plane delivery date was late..

Whole dresser was full of money. Come spring I said I'm taking two weeks off. They said you can't, we are behind, we will replace you. I wasn't a mathematician but something didn't add up.

A wild two weeks that was, rented an airplane flew and partied. Joined the mile high club.

The girls decided that was better than letting me fly the damn plane. Guess they didn't like the power on stalls and inside loops.

When I got back to the job. They welcomed me. A man should know bullshit when he hears it.

I guess there ace my tool pardner old Fred the world war two airborne ranger who had been pulled up in a glider over the English Channel and dropped in France with explosives strapped on his back, not a good survival rate same as papy’s.

These were the guys papy respected.

Fred had been depressed while I was gone. I loved old Fred the hobbit. Taught me so much so much like my father. Minus the booze.

He was going through helpers one or more a week. They were running out of candidates.

I had aced the bar charts in final assembly. Hell, I finished my days chart early in the afternoon. I would go and help the slower guys. They liked that ,the general was laying off two or three almost every week.

At lunch the foreman came to me with an unhappy look on his face. I had been making him look good. He says the general foreman wants to see you after lunch. Everybody at the table looked at me in shock like I had been shot. He was the terminator . If he called you in, they never saw you again.

The big bastard said sit down and he was looking at the computer printout. Combs, I see you have been punching out way out at the time machine next to the parking lot at exactly 2:30 . I worked an early shift and I beat the rest of the guys out.

He says you know you're supposed to punch out in your section.

I said well I'm really fast sir he didn't look amused, no fckng sense of humor I guess.

He said you're out of here now, that's what I thought he was going to say.

Your foreman says you're a top hand so I will let it go this time. But I want you to punch out in your area from now on, understand ?. Yes sir and I did for a week or so then started working my way back out towards the parking lot

The Boeing way hired 10 thousand three months later they laid off half.

They raised my rank again grade 3 The first one in my class.

They put me out with Fred. They warned me he was a hard ass.

I grew up with a hard ass boys. I like the challenge and we did piece work. The harder and faster you work the more money you make. Hell, I could run all day no sweat.

Old Fred the hobbit wider than he was tall worked at a
