    Compelling... comforting... captivating.

In the midst of darkness, fear and uncertainty, there is God. Esther Low has woven into her book a very powerful testimony of the caring nature of God, even to those who have not yet known or acknowledged Him.

She brings to life God’s promise of Psalm 40:5 Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us and Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

The recurring theme is one of God’s patience, care and protection all through the years of her life. A continuing story which gives encouragement to the reader of God’s faithfulness in ways we oftentimes do not anticipate - your ways are not my way, saith the Lord (Isaiah 55:8).

Highly recommended reading. Read this book and be inspired to share His blessings. Read this book and be comforted that all things work together to them that love the Lord. – TAN KOK SENG

    PREFACE

One of the most important lessons to learn in life is that things do not always happen as expected.

I now realise that my life does not belong to me but to God who created me, heaven and earth and all that are in it.

We can expect divine intervention in our journey through life. Speaking for myself, my life was divinely turned around in several aspects. This book reveals what happened to me from birth. Many miraculous incidences had happened in my life. Most of them were not revealed to people. I now write this book to reveal how my life is preserved from death, calamities and destructions up till now.

First and foremost this book gives all glory to God for His protection and intervention in my life.

My fervent hope is that this book will comfort those who need consolation in their sufferings. It may be the answer for those who are looking for solutions to problems. It also points to divine truths.

The different chapters vividly capture scenes of various divine communication from heaven: dreams and visions etc were revealed as it happened, not forgetting other modes of communication from God.

In truth Almighty God is in control of the universe He created.

    Part 1

    CHAPTER 1

    The Turbulent Years – World War 2 (1939 – 1945)

The years from 1939 to 1945 were turbulent years - the Second World War between the Allies (Great Britain, France, the Soviet Union, the U.S., etc.) and the Axis (Germany, Italy, Japan, etc.) was one of the worst wars ever fought.

In the year 1941 Japanese forces entered the northern part of the Malay peninsula by way of southern Thailand. Warplanes zoomed angrily across the sky in their path of destruction. The peaceful, sleepy Penang island mainly inhabited by fishermen was turned into a living hell. It seemed bombs were dropped on the island because a row of handcarts parked with their long handles pointing skyward were mistaken for anti-aircraft guns! The people panicked and ran helter-skelter, not knowing what to do or where to go. They were screaming in great fear, War! War! War! Within the hour the whole nation of Malaya was rudely awakened to the harsh reality of war! The country sank into chaos and despair as never seen before. The death toll increased by the hour!

A part of the inhabitants of Malaya included Chinese nationals who had migrated from southern China. These were the migrants who had earlier left China for other parts of the world in pursuit of a new life. During the migration mania my father together with his friends ventured forth into the unknown, hoping to find a better future. Having braved many dangers, including foul weather conditions across treacherous oceans, they finally reached the Malay Archipelago. My father’s footsteps landed on the northern part of the Malay peninsula, now known as West Malaysia. Incidentally, the Malay peninsula is shaped like a fish with the well-known island of Singapore right at her southern tip.

It seemed my father wandered from place to place until he finally reached the small town of Butterworth. It was here that he met my mother and married her. They stayed with my widowed grandmother. According to what we children had heard from my mother and grandmother, the Japanese were cruel and merciless. They were the most hated race then. We were horrified to hear of the Japanese soldiers’ cruelty. All the stories narrated here were told by my grandmother, mother and other family members.

The situation in Butterworth was tense. Every now and then the sirens’ shrill sound would pierce the air. The inhabitants rushed to take cover. Their lives sank into the abyss of despair as each day dawned with the shadows of death looming overhead. We were told that the initial batch of infantry soldiers sent here was very rough, and their horrendous savagery soon became the hallmark of the war. The people suffered tremendously with unprecedented, inhuman tortures topping a host of atrocities. Up till then, the people had never heard of, nor experienced such inhuman, cruel behaviour. When we grew up, we were wondering whether all the serious allegations were true or exaggerated. Some of the tortures sounded too inhuman to be true.

The country faced starvation and malnutrition took its toll on the locals. Countless innocent lives were lost; others struggled to survive from the wounds inflicted on their bodies. The country was plunged into utter despair and hopelessness as never experienced before that lasted until the end of the war. It was a far-cry from the peaceful, bountiful days of bliss under the British regime.

The soldiers set up ‘comfort-stations’ which was their euphemism for brothels. However, the carnage of rape and violence still purged the land. Young girls were kidnapped to serve as sex slaves in these centres. The females cut their long tresses short and wore male outfits. My mother and my aunt, too, reluctantly cut their hair very short. Panic broke out among the people when the soldiers beheaded a man and displayed his head high up at a road junction.

A new law had just been enforced - anyone passing by that road junction must bow down before the head hanging there. As the locals were not acquainted with Japanese customs, innocent people were killed because they did not bow to the head. People lived in fear every day, not knowing what would crop up the next moment.

My grandmother and her family also had their fair share of intrigues. It was early in the morning and as she
