About this ebook

One clerical error, and I'm suddenly wedded to the man my twin agreed to marry by mail-order proxy.

I just want to take photos and be the best crime photographer in my field. I have no interest in dating or marriage. Then this happens! And I'm somehow "married" to some guy I don't know. Except I do. He's a cop in one of the towns I interviewed in this past year. And they've just hired me.

What are the chances? In my life, pretty good. And since my name is Murphy, the law always applies.

Loved the story, but there were a number of typos that keep distracting me. Otherwise it was great and I hope to read both Dom and Mike's stories!

Prologue

~ Jessie ~

What. The. Hell? Seriously, what the actual hell? I stared down at the piece of paper in my hand. It had come from Silver Falls, where I’d just been hired as a crime scene photographer, after I’d done nearly twenty-five interviews around the country. I’d thought this was paperwork pertaining to that.

Not so much.

I stared at the marriage certificate in my hand. Yeah… Marriage. Certificate. Apparently, I, Jessie Jane Murphy, was now legally married to some guy from Silver Falls named Mylo James. This sheet had copy stamped on the top, so I could only assume Mr. James had the original, official document.

I pressed my fingers to my forehead, squeezing and pressing in as I tried to rub away my confusion and horror.

First…how had this happened? There had to be some kind of mistake. I mean…

Second, I had no damn idea who this guy was.

And third, I would never ever in my right mind date—or marry—someone with the last name James. Call me shallow all you want, but there’s no way I would run the risk of becoming Jessie James. I could already hear the snickers that would happen every time I entered a crime scene and had to introduce myself.

I slammed the paper onto my table. No. No no no no no. This just was not happening. I glanced around at all the boxes surrounding me. The movers would be here in twenty minutes, then I’d be on my way to my new hometown.

And apparently, on my way to my new husband, too.

Yeah, I needed to fix this problem ASAP.

Chapter One

~ Jessie ~

You’re standing in my light. I narrowed my eyes at the guy walking around as if he owned this place. He was beyond hot in his black suit that seemed made for his tall, muscular frame. Mouthwatering to tell the truth and I’d never felt that way about a man, particularly one sporting his kind of attitude.

Even so, I wanted to thrust my hands into his dark hair and make him kiss me while I stared into his dark-brown eyes.

And that pissed me off even more than I already was. Okay, not pissed off. I was at my first crime scene doing what I dreamed. Taking crime scene photos. I was cranky-tired, hangry and feeling conflicted because I was thrilled to be here yet some guy had been murdered so I definitely shouldn’t be thrilled.

And Mr. I-Own-The-World was screwing up my shot.

You’re in my light, I repeated. "If you want documentation that’s worth a shit, move," I growled.

He glared over at me. Didn’t move. Then crossed his arms. Who are you?

The CSI photographer who’s trying to make sure we have all the photographic evidence to nail whoever murdered this guy. You?

"The CSI
