    Dedicated to Antaeus

I never imagined I’d be lucky enough to have someone like you championing for the best in me. I’m so grateful and with each day I love you more and more.

    VS Then

    Aspire To Be

One day I was walking down the street

    When I happened to meet

This young guy come talking, Come Holla at ME…

    You know, What’s up Shorty?

I said, "I’m chillin if you willin to let me

But first I gotta know what you Aspire To Be"

He looked kind of confused while I was amused

So then he said, Shorty, you want to sip on some brews?

I said, No thank you, but Slim do you have a clue?

He said, Dang why you stressing me and Dressing me up in your questions?

I said, "Because dude I’m one of Life’s lessons, so as you can see

I still need to know what you Aspire To Be.

Do you Aspire to work somewhere illegit?

Or do you work where you have to commit?

Do you Aspire to be someone real down?

Or do you mask your face like a clown?

Do you Aspire to be HIV free?

Or are you just trying to run all up in me?"

Dude got offended and began to whine.

I said, "Hold up bro, I know you fine

But you wanted to Holla at ME.

    I didn’t say you had to have a J O B.

If you’re getting educated, well that’s cool too.

But if you diggin me I gotta know what’s up with you!

Do you shop at J. Crew?

Do you practice Voodoo? Do you like Guru?

Did you dig Ride It Hot?  Or are you trying to hit my Hot Spot?"

Dude said, "Oh, I know your game

You’re one of those females who wants a man to tame."

So then I just shook my head cause dude thought he had me read

So then I said, "NO, it’s not even like that.  I just feel you’re precious and need to leave these street messes that uses you in the recesses of a cesspool acting like somebody’s

boy-tool!  But I forgive you if that’s all you know

But I’m here to tell you there’s other places to go.

I’m not like the other females just trying to diss

And to prove it to you I’ll lay you a kiss.

    Before I bid you good-bye, good-day

    I’m not like the others

I don’t want just your foreplay.

You see I got a LOVE for you and that’s a mystery to me

Which is why I am concerned,

What do you Aspire To Be?"

    They Call Us….

Well excuse me for stepping on your toes

    And for wearing some clothes

And I’m sorry my scent got all up in your nose

And all of those other things that make a woman or female

    With a scale of sense

That can’t stand dense lil S.O.B’s

Who can’t see me for what and who I am

    DAMN!

Uh oh! Here he goes, girl did you here him?

    He called us, Hoes?!

Because I know his ignorance shows

Because I didn’t like his game

Though from a womb we both came!

Look at the hatred in his eye

    U, N, I, T, Why? Why do I

    And other females get disrespected

    Our feelings neglected

    Our minds infected

    By young black men’s words

    That are surely absurds.

Beyond joking around with constant gratuitous reference to hoes

As their lowly perception of us grows

Do you know what I heard the other day

While on my way back from lunch?

I was walking past a bunch

Of neighborhood guys trading lies and all

When my jaw began to fall

As I listened to them speak and tweek

About some Pretty Hoes they seek.

"Yeah dog, that hoe was fine… you talking bout that light hoe

or the other one…Naw the light-skinned pretty hoe wit long hair…"

    They wasn’t playing
