I’d like to dedicate this book to my parents Rose, Fred, and Jenny for the love and the decisions they made to help me be the person I am today.

For my children Ariana and John, and my grandson Ray; without them my life would not be as full.

A special thank you to everyone who contributed their special stories for this book. I am grateful for you sharing your experiences.

And for all the people who have taught me, discipled me, helped to serve me in my times of need, and encourage me throughout my entire life. That is a lot of people, so to mention their names it would probably take a whole chapter! All of you know who you are.

I pray that God has and will continue to bless you throughout your life as He strengthens you and leads you into His will.

    Love by Faith

The warmth of the sun against your cheek,

Is like how you feel when you first meet,

That warm, fuzzy and tingly feeling,

That now has more depth and a whole new meaning.

Yes, I have heard of love at first sight,

But never a love that's not in plain sight,

A love by faith that no man can understand,

Except when God intervenes with early man.

Oh, only then how you can see,

This God like love ordained to be,

A special love that is just for me,

Jesus Christ who died on that tree.

How amazing to feel so loved and lifted up,

By words of love and encouragement,

Shared by him who has chosen me,

To live out His will as royalty,

    Faithfully and righteously.

How amazing it is for us to see,

How God's chosen both you and me,

To serve his purpose and fulfill his will,

With each new day, as we stand still,

On each, and every promise he has given,

For us, to have, to hold, to cherish and live on.

    Love you all,

    Belinda

    Preface

A word from God is the most amazing gift that you can receive, because it helps us to see how much God cares about our lives, whether that word comes directly from God’s audible voice, through His Prophets, or through someone else. Or whether it comes through visions and dreams or signs and wonders. All of it is for the same purpose, and that is simply to make amends and draw nearer to God. The Bible says in Hebrews Ch. 4 v. 12 (NIV), For, the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

This is the very reason why God’s word transforms our lives. I would like you to take notice of how the Word of God is described in verse 12, where it says the words alive and active.

    Alive means living.

Active means engaging or ready to engage in physically energetic pursuits.

So, basically the scripture is saying that God is a living being and that He is ready to engage in our life. How beautiful is it that the God of the universe wants to be a part of our life?

As you begin to read this book, my hope and prayer is that the doorway of your heart will begin to open toward God, who desires to be a part of your life in every area, and that, as you read and learn how to hear God, you will take God’s word and apply it to your life. The Word of God will begin to help you to see and hear God and His truths more clearly. When you read, you must learn to rightly divide truth and walk in it. The question becomes, How do I do that?

The book of James Ch. 1 v. 22-25 (NIV) says clearly to not just read the Bible but to do what it says: ²²Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. ²³Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror ²⁴ and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. ²⁵But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

God has many blessings in store for you and your family. So, take hold of what God has for you as you begin to discern the voice of God. His blessings are too numerous to count and far greater than you can imagine.

When writing this book, I was originally writing with the intent of speaking to three groups of people. However, I realized I needed to add a fourth group:

The person seeking God and who has never had a relationship with God.

    Isaiah 55 v. 1-3

Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. ²Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. ³Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.

The person who has had a relationship with God but somewhere along the way you stopped believing and standing on His Word and His promises.

    Isaiah 1 v. 18-19

¹⁸Come now, let us settle the matter, says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. ¹⁹If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land.

The young Christian who has been newly baptized and in your first five years.

    Isaiah 55 v. 6-9

⁶Seek the LORD while he may be found call on him while he is near. ⁷Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. ⁸For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. ⁹As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

The mature Christian who is five years old or older in the faith.

    Colossians 4 v. 2-6

²Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. ³And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. ⁴Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. ⁵Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. ⁶Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

Lastly, my prayer for all, no matter what stage you are in, is that you become more intimate with God and grow in your relationship with Him, never letting go of His faithful promises for you and your family. God has so much in store for all of you.

God bless you, and grace and peace to you all.

    Love,

    Belinda

    Chapter One

    Scriptures:

    Hearing God Through His Word

    2 Timothy Ch. 3 v. 16-17

¹⁶All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, ¹⁷so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for very good work.

The beginning of how we learn to hear God starts with His Scriptures. In 1 Timothy Ch. 3 v. 16 (NIV) it says, All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. Notice that the word ‘Scripture’ is capitalized and presented as a noun, which means that it is a person, place, or thing. In this context it is a person and is written over 50 times in the Bible in the form of a noun. To truly see, believe, and understand this, let us dig a little deeper.

In John Ch. 1 v. 1-2 (NIV), it reads, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. Now, drop down to John Ch. 1 v. 14 (NIV) where it says, The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. It shows us in verse two how Jesus was with God and then in verse fourteen how the Word became flesh. This clearly depicts a beautiful picture of how Jesus was with God in heaven and then became flesh (by being born of Mary). This can only mean that every time you see and read the word ‘Scripture’, that it is God personally speaking to you, because He himself is the Word. While reading my Bible one morning, this whole concept of the word ‘Scripture’ came to life for me, and it blew me away. I had been a Christian for 21 years and never noticed that before. That is why I love the Bible, because when you read it, it can always cut to the heart, encourage, and transform, all at the same time. It is as if you are reading it for the first time and have God physically standing right in front of you to tell you how to live life. When you begin to read, the Word of God will begin to speak to your heart and come alive.

    My Personal Story

I remember a time in my life where I felt the pressures of life more than ever before, and the weight of the world was so heavy on my shoulders. It was 21 years ago, right before I decided to make the decision to make Jesus the Lord of my life. I was depressed, but I did not even realize it; I really have never ever felt as deeply depressed as I did at that time. I was completely immobilized in my life and began to wonder why my life was where it was and how I had gotten there. In addition to that, I felt a lack of peace, which I knew I so desperately needed. I knew that I could get peace and relief for my circumstances from God and began to think of ways to get close to Him. Now, at that time in my life I was Catholic and an occasional church-goer. So, I thought to myself, if I begin to do these next set of things, it would bring me closer to God.
