Introduction
Frustrated, anxious and overwhelmed, I should have known that my body was shutting down. I was mentally drained; but I couldn’t tell anyone how I really felt deep down inside. My nerves had become awfully bad. I even began hallucinating at times.
I was driving myself crazy trying to care for my newborn daughter. I was tired and needed a break. I had all the classic symptoms of postpartum depression but refused to acknowledge it.
As a nurse for four years, I’ve cared for patients in the geriatric population, as well as people with psychiatric and behavioral issues. I’ve been trained to assist patients who were going through mental health crises; however, I refused to acknowledge my own silent cry for help. I needed to be rescued from the pain of postpartum depression.
Overcoming Postpartum Depression is a mother’s journey to emotional healing and well-being. Written from a stance of first-hand experience, this book is the perfect story to empower mothers to seek help without feeling ashamed. Your mental health status plays a big factor in your overall health. If your mind is clear, you can take initiative and react to things quickly. This will ensure that you will make important decisions regarding your mental health.
This book is a tell-all
of everything I experienced during this disorder. I’ll discuss what helped me personally and how I sought out help from my physician. I’ll share the things that helped me cope and recover from this debilitating disorder.
This narrative will also help young mothers become proactive when experiencing symptoms of postpartum depression. My hope and prayer are that they can avoid feeling how I felt. Secondly, I hope this book encourages mothers to stay positive as they go through the developmental phases with their newborn. My goal is to empower women to actively take control over their health.
Dedication
I dedicate my book to my beautiful caring daughter, Malia—the main reason for the development of this book. I experienced postpartum depression with Malia in 2018. I
