This story is written for children and adults alike. I found my love of writing from reading pure fantasy.  It is my hope that this story will increase the desire of children everywhere to read.  Parents allow their imagination to grow and flow.  Allow them to be children.  Don’t neglect them…simply love them.  Their needs are important too.

    Chapter

    1

Capture the soul of the guilty and feed your own, the Drulian mage spoke to his apprentice as the mark of death was placed upon each of their shoulders. As the crowd gave witness, a sigh of great joy erupted from the audience as Hanara passed beyond the massive pillar stones and moved onward to the next station post of the graduation proceedings. Her master was glowing with a wealth of aura as his eyes gazed upon his young student standing with great pride and zeal.  Looking onward at the approaching young lady, the Supreme Drulian Master stood evidently pleased with his youngest student graduating. Upon her approach, she faced him with great confidence and mental strength as he immediately issued the mark of rebirth upon the forehead of Hanara. The sound of the sizzling flesh and the scent of it cooking was nauseating to those in the audience, but the pain was minimal, for in her many years of structured training, Hanara’s first learned skill that her father requested for her to receive was to suppress all pain. After the ceremony ended for Hanara, she was escorted out of the grand library by a mage of the former years class of her choosing and another graduate of arcane skills arrived to take her place so that they too could receive the mark of death, the mark of rebirth, and the honor of formal graduation from the Drulian Opus School of Magic.

Master Milam, are you sure I am ready.  I am still years younger than the rest of those who graduated from the school before me.  My one desire is to go out and prove my skills to not only you, but to the Supreme Drulian Master Evault, Hanara spoke in a voice of great cheer.

My child, you have nothing more to prove to anyone. You have completed your goal and became a true Drulian mage of heart, mind and spirit. You have earned your skills and ever surpassed those who came into this class with you.  You are my child and I am extremely proud of you.  What more do you believe you need to accomplish?  Who else do you need to prove yourself too?  I think you have done enough.  My suggestion to you is to not take this time for granted, but you should do for yourself and self-study.  Train your skills and elevate your powers to be even greater.  In time, you will be the first female Supreme Drulian Master, her father Master Milam replied.

Father, I am still lost to what I must do.  There are still so many options and to be honest, I do not know which path to take. What would you suggest? she asked in a voice of confusion?

As the question donned greater imagination and contemplation, the thoughts of her father gave way to the indecisive stare of Hanara.  Usually her confidence would show and he would be able to grant her a thought provoking course of action, but at this moment, he too was uncertain.

Hanara, your spirit is strong and no matter what I suggest, you will not find to your liking.  My ideas of your growth are not difficult enough for you to grow beyond, so it is my suggestion that you meet with the Supreme Drulian Master and see what his words would grant you, stated Milam as he and his daughter took a break and walked outside to be amongst the forces of life and rejuvenation.

Outside the school is a place that is not granted to those who are studying the Drulian art of magic.  After ten years of lessons, practicing and learning different Drulian arts, Hanara was able to go back into the world she was use to and remembered in her youth.  It was this world, outside of the school grounds, that she remembered as the world of play, growth, and the joys of youth.  It was there, in that world, that she was discovered to have Drulian powers at the age of five.  For energy such as that which she used to have developed and become visible at the age of five, Hanara must have been housing within her little body a lot of unseen power that needed much direction.  In her youth, her skills started with levitating a ball into the air, then draining the life from plants… now with her skills and age, she can take life from almost anything that has life, and she also has an unusual special trait, she can absorb powers and energy as well.  With her father, an instructor at the school and no other living sibling nor parent to take care of her, or to instruct her in proper usage of her powers, Hanara decided that she wanted to learn all she could while her father, knowing the existence of the power she held within, could only see greatness in her and wanted her youthful mind, properly trained and focused.

Father, do you remember that tree?  You use to swing me on it when I was younger, but now look how it has changed.  It is now much bigger and taller than I last remember it to be, she stated with a look of true astonishment upon her face as her head tilted up so her eyes could visualize the very top of the tree.

My dearest, you are not that little girl anymore.  You are not the little one that I use to place upon my shoulders and carried on my back.  A many years have passed. Ten years to be exact and in that great amount of time, all things change… look at you, he spoke as if there was another lesson that she needed to learn.

Father, I know this, but the amount of time that has passed seems so little, but in actuality, it has been a lot more than even I had envisioned.  It is shocking when your eyes have only seen one world and almost forgot that there is another one beyond the walls of this school, Hanara replied as she took in full glances of her surrounding while visualizing the great differences upon the land around her.

Hanara, I remember when I came here for my schooling, a many years ago. During those days, the school was larger, we had more teachers and with all the years that have passed, there is still one thing that stays the same…the graduation.  Has the burning begun to ache? he asked her in a very understanding voice.

In actuality it does and it is hard to brush aside, she replied.

Well the secret to that are the herbs in the field here.  They have a healing quality that goes far beyond magic and can stop the pulsations and pain.  All you must do is suck on these leaves… do not even think of using the flower.  The flower will most definitely put you to sleep.  This plant is called Vanjit", Milam stated as he pulled leaves for his daughter to suck upon.

I will never forget anything you have taught me father.  Your knowledge will not go to waste in my hands nor within my mind or heart, she spoke with her mouth slowly filling up with the minty flavored leaves.

Just chew those leaves.  Don’t spit when the moisture excessively builds up in your mouth.  When the mint taste is gone and the sour flavor becomes strong, you then can then spit them out.  Hanara, by that time, the pain should be gone and your only worry will be what to do with your new skills since you have finally graduated from school.  Hanara, thinking clearer, maybe you should take up a quest… Hey, that’s the idea… Take up a quest that the Supreme Drulian Master would have you do.  I know he would do that for a bright student such as yourself.  My daughter, go to him tomorrow and renew your hunger for life and grant your powers new strength, spoke her father who with a blink of an eye vanished, leaving her alone to contemplate her future and to enjoy the rest of her time of re-discovery painlessly.

Alone, outside of the school, Hanara was enjoying her new peace.  Watching the leaves sway on the trees, seeing the fluffy clouds and watching the insects crawl upon the ground were all a delight. As the moments passed, the imagery and the movements soon reunited memories of old that still dwelled within the core of her thoughts and being.

I wonder, if after all these years, if that stream that existed during my youth has grown or remained the same, she thought silently to herself as her eyes envisioned the stream from the memories of her youth.  Closing her eyes and envisioning the stream from whence she was a youth, Hanara called upon a spell of teleportation and was instantly teleported there.

You have grown much my little stream of fresh clean water.  I bet you don’t remember me anymore, but when I was small, you crept from a tree beside my home.  Now you are bigger and much more alive.  Your water flows in grace and with much more speed.  Soon someday you will have fish living within you, she said as she knelt down and scooped up some of the refreshing cool water from the stream she once knew, played in, and drank from.

After taking a sips of the clear cool water, Hanara sat upon the edge of the stream and once again, with eyes of age, where there was once youth, she took note of more changes her eyes had seen from her youth that were gone now.  Nothing was the same and then again, things never totally change.  With the closing of her eyes and the opening of her mind, she vanished once more and reappeared in her room at the school.  This place was now her home. This place was her present and not an envisionment or element of some lost memory of her youth.  Here she lived and slept.  This place is her reality.

    Chapter

    2

The next morning brought a new awakening to Hanara.  She was now a graduate of the school and had to choose a path to continue her growth.  She did not want to stagnate and be bored.  After dwelling upon the words of her father, Hanara knew that he was only thinking of her growth and further maturity.  It was at that point, she knew that his concept was one that she needed to take seriously.  In fact, she was already becoming bored and slightly agitated.  She had no morning schedule, nor was there anything planned.

I must get an audience with the Supreme Drulian Master Evault, she spoke aloud in the solitude of her room.  Immediately as the words passed beyond her lips and came to life in her deep inner thoughts, Hanara changed her ponderings and  began to dress in her new graduate mage robes; I hope he is not too busy after yesterday’s graduation events, softly she spoke aloud.

Rushing down winding stairs to see the possibility of gaining an audience with the Supreme Drulian Master, Hanara ran with the ease of a child who was to receive a present.  Within a moment’s time, she not only arrived at the door of the Supreme Drulian Master, but she caught him just walking into his office.  He was plainly dressed for this day was the day after the graduation ceremony and events.  He was wearing a simple robe and upon it was no gems to garnish it, but by just being around him, anyone could feel the great amount of magical energy that dwelled within his being and the humbling demeanor of his distinctive personality.

How may I help you my young mage? asked the Supreme Drulian Master as he glanced upon the young girl standing near his office door.

At first thought, she wondered if the words could escape her lips until she released a sound… Supreme Drulian Master Evault, I am in need of an audience with you.  I am lost and need a direction.  I spoke with my father and even he said to go to you with my dilemma , she replied with a look of much ponder and bewilderment within her facial expression.

Well this is what I am here for, the Supreme Drulian Master stated with a bright smile upon his face; Come sit in my office and let’s see if we can get you back on path.

Thank you … Thank you, she said with a blank unconscious look upon her face, the Supreme Drulian Master Evault smiled with great glee as he stared upon her with all his exalted wisdom.

Don’t thank me yet my young mage.  Now, take a moment and have a seat.  I will give you what I truly believe should be the best course of further growth, he stated in a soothingly calm voice.

Upon entry inside of the office of the Supreme Drulian Master, Hanara was truly amazed at how simple the standard of this most powerful man was and had become.  After seeing him yesterday, in his extremely lavish robe with many strange rare and beautiful gems embedded upon it, she felt strange looking upon him in this new attire.

Alright my young mage, tell me your problem and make it direct and to the point, he requested as she sat in the chair on the other side of his desk.

Supreme Drulian Master, she said as he instantly interrupted her and said, To the point please.

I don’t know what to do now that I have graduated.  I am a year ahead of those I came into the order with and I want to be stronger and wiser as a Drulian mage and I want to forward the growth of my skills.  What should I do?  My father told me to ask of you to send me on a quest, but I don’t know if I am ready or even strong enough to be completely honest.  I am truly not comfortable with the idea of doing a quest, but I will do as you say, Hanara stated in a truly hopeful voice.

There was a great moment of silence after she finished speaking.  Her words not only continued to echo within the office chamber, but they never seemed to die down within her mind.  Within the mind of Hanara and all the other students that go through the course of study to become a Drulian mage, the words of the Supreme Drulian Master were as trusted, honored and revered as those of their parents.

You must be the daughter of Milam…, Hanara.  To be honest, I am baffled when it comes to you.  Your power, skills and later abilities are going to be unbelievable with time, age, and maturity…, but the current thought is what can I do to assist you in getting to that point and level is the question that I must answer.  I could take you under me and train you completely myself, but that will both hinder complete growth and the true furthering of your skills.  In order to give your growth and skill the true completeness that they need, I have decided that I will send you on a quest and it will be a quest made for a Master Drulian mage. That is the only type of quest that I can give to you that will appease your abilities and skills together.  Hanara, I will send you to the Land of Dragon to recover an object of great magic and importance to the world… On the way there, you must acquire from the Mountains of Light, the Scepter of Chaos.  In the Land of Dragon, the Necklace of Transformation is your quest task.  Be warned, none has recovered either of them.  Even I failed in the mission to get the Scepter of Chaos, stated the Supreme Drulian Master while his mind was in great thought and in slight ponder.

Hanara had a confused look upon her face.  Her thought that the Supreme Drulian Master was perfect had fallen to shambles.  The image that she had was of a man that could do all and his powers were unmatched by any.

So… Supreme Drulian Master Evault, if you are the best in the magical arts, how did you not past the quest? she asked in great wonder. I did pass my young one… I was one of three to fully survive the ordeal and lived to tell about it.  Out of the twelve of us that went on the quest, only three made it out alive…your father and I are just two.  This is the quest I have chosen for you and you will leave when the sun is at full height over the school.  I will have your supplies ready for you by then and your steed will also be there as well, he stated as he gave a look of great ponder.

Will I have anyone to accompany me while I am on this journey, asked Hanara in great wonder.

I was truly just considering that issue.  Willing I am to find you a suitable companion, but my only thought is… Would it hamper you and get you killed or save your life or kill your companion?  My decision will be made when you see your horse and supplies, stated the Supreme Drulian Master Evault as he arose from his chair and with a thought teleported her to her room within the mighty halls of the school.

As Hanara packed for her quest, she hoped to have a companion on her journey so that she would not be alone.  During her time in the Drulian Opus School of Magic, she was never alone.  She always had someone to study with, talk to, or simply relate to in some form or way, but with the morning soon to end and the sun had climbed nearly to its peak, she was still gathering what she thought she needed for herself to take on this mission of great danger.  Hanara had no fear of the journey for she welcomed the thought of having an adventure, but as a well-trained Drulian mage, she knew that a quest as such would require a many changes of clothes as well as much money for lodging, food and necessary supplies.  Regardless, in the back of her mind, she hoped that she would have a companion to cover her weaknesses (whatever they may be).

As soon as the sun had reached its peak, she closed her eyes and envisioned the location that the Supreme Drulian Master Evault had told her of.  In a flash, she was there with her clothing tied up in a bag made from skins.  Beside her was a grey horse that had already been saddled and rained for travel.  There was not an additional person there, but there was a large raven perched in the tree, squawking very loudly.  Briskly examining the saddle pockets of the grey horse, Hanara discovered a map, a piece of charcoal for writing and a pouch of water.  In the other pocket, there was money for travel, some gems, an amulet and a note.  Immediately she took the note and put it in her pocket until after her examination of all the things that the Supreme Drulian Master had given her for the journey.  Resting on
