Kieran Nathaniel Nnamdi Ekeledo

Kieran Ekeledo a.k.a The Athlete Educator founded Success GPS in 2014 and is quickly being recognised as a thought leader in the fields of personal development and life after sports. Working closely with Focus Fitness UK, Kieran is changing lives, sharing and introducing people into the world of personal training and development. Prior to forming Success GPS, Kieran served on the Swansea University Amateur Boxing Club Committee as Treasurer and Assistant Coach. His passion for health and fitness reigns back to his early days. Kieran grew up in the gym as his mother was a fitness instructor and personal trainer since the 80s. In 2004, his mum came close to death when she suffered an aneurism, leaving her fully paralysed on her left side. This triggered a journey of personal development that has evolved over the years. Although most careers in sports are not ended as tragically, a lack of career planning is eminent among athletes. Kieran is the author of Unlimited Income: How To Win The Game Of Life. He is often referred to as the Napoleon Hill for athletes as he shares the laws of success that he learnt from interviewing high profile retired and professional athletes from around the world, business people and personal development gurus. This includes property developers, entrepreneurs, public speakers, boxers, football players and ex-Olympians from all over the world. Kieran's first-hand research of life after sports and change management was developed during his extensive interviews with professional athletes and sports professionals from all walks of life. Kieran retired from competitive sports in 2014 after having some success in judo, kickboxing and boxing. He received his BSc in International Business Economics from Swansea University. In the future, Kieran has a vision of delivering motivational talks and educational workshops to Premiership football clubs, NBA, NFL as well as with other associations and organisations.

    Go Out and Get It

When you go after something in life and you really want to pursue it, there is nothing that can stop you apart from a lack of imagination and goodwill. The first thing you must do is to decide what you want to go out and get.

I want you to think deeply within yourself and find out what you want to go out and get, or what’s missing in your life.

In this chapter we’re going to cover five action steps you can take to get out of your comfort zone and improve your results.

The first thing we need to look at is something very important. With this you’ll have super confidence in everything that you do. It will allow you to overcome setbacks and give you the extra edge you need. However, without this, you are likely to fall at every hurdle life throws at you. I know, I have fallen a few times.

It is near impossible to gain any momentum in pursuit of your dreams without… SELF-BELIEF.

    1. INCREASE YOUR SELF-BELIEF

Self-belief is a character trait that provides you with the courage to pursue your dreams and aspirations with confidence.

For example, do you remember when you were learning to ride a bike? When you were first learning you were probably using training wheels or stabilisers to keep you on track while you built up the self-belief. When you felt you were ready, you decided to take off the kiddie wheels and you wanted to step it up a gear.

Perhaps you fell a few times before you got the hang of it. If you stand a bike up and nobody’s on it, it won’t move because it’s the self-belief and action that enable you to create motion.

Let me take you back to a simpler time when I was a boy. All the popular school kids were very gifted athletically. They were able to do cartwheels and somersaults like there’s no tomorrow. It was like a gymnast’s school.

I considered myself a cool cat so I figured that in order to stay relevant in the year above I would have to learn to do somersaults too. I didn’t know how I was going to do it, but I had the self-belief that I could do it if I kept on trying as I had seen others do it before. I knew it would be possible for me.

My success began with self-belief in my abilities. In time, my skills improved after practice, practice and more practice. It took me about eight months of repeatedly honing my skills after school every day until I was also able to do some of the same tricks that the cool kids could do in the year above. I used to go home and watch Dragon Ball Z to motivate myself. I would repeatedly attempt to do flips, day after day until I was at a level where I could do them time after time.

Now, I would like you to evaluate where you are at the moment by doing a quick exercise. Turn your head clockwise to see how far you can look over your right shoulder. Try this now.

Next, I want you to close your eyes and attempt doing this exercise again. Before you begin, close your eyes and visualise the point that you got to previously. Think of the point you reached but now allow yourself to imagine looking past this point by at least 20%. What would it feel like to turn your head as far as the new point? Once you have spent 30 seconds visualizing your improvement I want you to open your eyes and attempt this exercise again.

Were you able to look past the initial point you thought was your maximum less than three minutes ago? Did you notice that you were able to improve on your previous performance once you had summoned more self-belief in your abilities?

Have you ever had a dream or goal that others did not think you would be able to achieve but you went for it anyway and you managed to achieve your goal? Your success was rooted in your self-belief of your abilities.

Self-belief is the seed of achievement that must be watered with hard work.

The second action you can take to get out of your comfort zone and improve your results will allow you to achieve things that you did not think possible for yourself. It will allow you to improve all areas of your life and you will also have a lot more focus and drive.

If you don’t take this step, you’ll feel lost, like a person going through life without any vision or direction.

    2. GOAL SETTING

Goals are the challenges you set for yourself to keep moving forward. They are targets that are specific, motivational and time-bound.

When we are born, our parents are the first people to set goals for us. Start crawling, start walking, saying our first word. These are targets set for us to achieve before we are 18 months old that will prove invaluable to
