    The fact that I was a grown-ass woman constantly buying cereal was bad. People my age were supposed to be roasting chicken and sautéing asparagus, not dumping milk over yet another bowl of Cheerios.

    And today, in an effort to be as boring as humanly possible, I’d chosen BranStars as my cereal of the week. An entire aisle of sugary delights, and I went with the most unappealing flavor imaginable.

    I would love to say that I chose this one because of my supreme commitment to health, but really it was the box. They all had the same, dull picture on the box – it looked like the company had opted to save a little money by doing the design themselves rather than hiring a professional.

    But one of the boxes, for some reason, had an additional star-shaped graphic in the corner. It had cheesy 90’s vibes, and proclaimed ‘A Prize in Every Box!’ Well, obviously it wasn’t every box, since this was the only BranStars on the shelf that boasted such a promise.

    Probably there wasn’t even anything in this box, because really, who puts prizes in cereal for adults? But still, it had been a long day, and I was intrigued, so that’s the box that made it home with me.   

    As I crunched my way through bowl #2, contemplating #3, I still hadn’t found anything except for the brown and tasteless cereal. I’ve never been known for my patience, so soon I was up to my elbow in the box, groping
