I wouldn’t say learning chokeholds was the entire reason I got into Karate, but it was definitely a contributing factor. I took a seminar in college about self-defense and we covered how to escape from common chokeholds. It was embarrassing then, but I’ve since learned to control it (and I always wear a cup, so it’s nearly impossible to tell when I find a lesson particularly ‘stimulating.’) Like today.
