A Small Mistake - Kayla Rhodes

I’d never answered a personal ad before. Honestly, I didn’t even look at them that often, and I don’t know why I did this time other than basic curiosity. Or maybe it was destiny. But whatever the reason, I saw Belinda’s ad in the classified section, and we agreed to meet.

It was such a short (and, frankly, bizarre) ad. 25 y.o. blonde seeking tiny man for a night of passion. Just that, and her phone number. No other descriptive words provided for what she wanted this ideal mate to be. Just ‘tiny man.’

I was intrigued. Also, I thought I fit the bill perfectly. I am 4’11" – tiny by any modern standards. Not quite short enough to qualify for a handicapped parking space, but my lack of height made getting a date nearly impossible. I would have been an idiot for passing up the opportunity to meet a woman who was actively seeking someone on the small side.

What I didn’t realize, of course, was that I was actually too tall for her. Four feet and seven inches too tall, to be exact.

I arrived first to the restaurant, and spent a good ten minutes adjusting my tie and rearranging the flowers I’d brought for her, wondering how I’d managed to get so lucky.

When Belinda joined me, I was struck dumb by her beauty. She was thin and elegant, with bright red lipstick and that stood out against her pale skin. Her golden hair was styled into thick, bouncy curls that tumbled over her shoulders. She was wearing a strapless dress – royal blue and glittering in the candlelight – that hugged the perfect curves of her hips and bosom.

    I was star-stuck.

She was... less enamored than I was.

It wasn’t that she was rude, or even openly disappointed in me. I could just tell that
