Merry Shrinksmas! 2020 - Tina Tiny

    I'll Be Small For Christmas

Ingrid checked her phone: 6:56. She was running behind.

That'll be sixty eight dollars and forty three cents, said the cashier. Ingrid swiped her card and gathered her bags.

    Merry Christmas! chirped the cashier.

Merry Christmas Ingrid chimed back as she left the store. She walked out into the chilled air, pulling her coat around her neck as she practically ran to the train station. The train was just arriving as she clomped across the platform in her heels.

Wait! she yelled out as she heard the door-closing tone. Fortunately, the operator saw her and left the doors open just long enough for her to get in. The tone sounded again, and the doors actually closed this time.

Ingrid collapsed into a seat, panting as she surveyed the car. There were only a few people on it with her: the usual crowd you'd expect. She was only a few stops away, so she sat back and enjoyed her few minutes of solitude.

At the next stop, a strange looking man holding a sign got on and began to walk the car. He stopped in front of every person, showing them his sign until they either waved him off or ignored him long enough for him to move on. Ingrid watched him out of the corner of her eye: he didn't look homeless, but he certainly wasn't very well off.

He made his way down until he finally stopped in front of Ingrid. She looked up and read his sign:

GIVE ME $1 I'LL GIVE YOU A WISH

Ingrid smiled and the man smiled back.

A wish, huh? she said. The man nodded.

Great at wishes, bad at money. Thought I might sell my talents.

Ingrid chuckled a little. It was certainly the most creative pitch she'd ever seen. And it was the holiday season….

Ingrid cautiously reached into her side pocket and felt the bill there. She pulled it out, spying Abraham Lincoln on the face.

Well, I guess it's your lucky day, she said, handing the man the five dollar bill. The man pocketed it and smiled, thanking her. The train slowed to her stop and she got up, the man moving to let her by.

Does that mean I get five wishes? she joked. The man put a finger to his chin in thought.

You know what...sure, it being Christmas and all. Five.

Ingrid laughed and stepped off the train.

'What a curious fellow,' she thought as she walked toward her house. A few minutes later she was inside, pulling off her winter clothes and putting away the few groceries she had collected.
