Cockpits and Caresses - Daizy Dennis

MILE HIGH CLUB - PART ONE

Yet another long haul flight. London to New York. He loved his job.

He’d wanted to be a pilot since he was small, but now it was something he did almost every day of the year. He’d need something to stave off the boredom of hours in the skies, as clear blue as they were. Working with people from all over the globe had helped him get a grasp of most of the global languages. He was fluent in a few, but he liked to understand the grammar and history, so had been using his time in the sky to study.

He was a ‘details’ guy. It had been the same with his sport. He loved the water, had finally invested in a boat and a jet ski, but they were in a dry dock in Greece, waiting for summer. Yannis, the boatyard owner, and he would share the renovations and maintenance of the boat. He wanted to learn all he could.

They had a few minutes waiting for flight control to give them permission to taxi. He’d checked the weather and had a quick chat with the flight crew. Everything was in place for an uneventful flight. He flicked a speck of dust from his thigh, checked his cuffs, straightened his epaulettes. The door to the flight deck was open. He could watch as the passengers settled in business class. The rest of the plane hidden from view, it was only half full. An offseason flight meant most people could spread out and sleep for most of the journey.

He glanced back and saw a woman being shown to her seat. Confident. He admired her curved figure. He’d never been one for skinny girls.

She wore a perfectly fitted skirt suit. He noticed how it hugged her butt and thighs, which was unusual on a flight. Most women wore baggy clothes. She gave off a New York businesswoman vibe.

He watched as she stretched up to slot her suitcase in the overhead locker, then swung the matching briefcase into the footwell. Her hair pulled up into a gold clip, one dark curl tried to escape, and she stroked it behind her ear. No wedding ring.

He wasn’t sure why he’d noticed, or why he felt so pleased at the lack of a gold band.

She turned to slide into her seat, her white blouse emphasised her tanned skin, a hint of a cleavage hidden behind the neatly pressed cotton. She was a little older than he’d thought. Laughter lines enhanced a genuine smile as she chatted with the crew. It was refreshing not to see a face so riddled with Botox that it didn’t move. She’d look good on the back of his jet ski, thighs around the engine, arms wrapped around him.

Now where the heck did that thought come from?

He’d always had a strict policy of no contact with his passengers, onboard at least. She sat down and glanced up. He turned away just in time. Felt the heat rise under his collar.

This was ridiculous. He was a grown man, flustered by someone he hadn’t even met, but she looked hot. Unable to shake the feeling that she
