    EMOTIVITY - Belly Kanungo

    INTRODUCTION

Emotions play a vital role in what we are, what we do and what we are meant to be. From my personal experiences, I’ve understood the power of emotions, gradually affecting us from our work to individuality to our personal lives; making our burst forth growth in substantial ways – including making a few mistakes along.

There are so many life examples, quotations, and write-ups about how emotions and creativity are writhed together. Truly, the growth of creativity is incomplete without the abundance of different kinds of emotions in all the phases of life. Trust me when I say this, failures and making mistakes are an ineluctable factor in the process of one’s growth, and each emotion has multifarious lessons to teach in order to polish the creative sides of each one of us furthermore.

In my journey, from being a writer to being a Radio Jockey to writing this book, it wouldn’t have been possible without making mistakes.

    Therefore,

Without failure and mistakes, one can never achieve what they yearn to.

Working with emotions is a process which involves knowing yourself first; which is, in fact, the most essential step. Once you know yourself, everything you want to be and then conquering over your slip-ups become easy breezy (comparatively). That doesn’t mean that you will have a constant emotional balance or happiness all along the journey. But, it means that once you know the depth of your own calibre, emotions automatically start bringing creativity in your writings or whichever creative field you’re into.

    As told by Pablo Picasso,

An artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web.

Therefore, some people believe that creative thinkers are only the ones who are perfect in their thoughts or who could excel in their creative fields like writing, painting or be making music.

    This is just not true!

In true sense, creativity can be found in whatever we do. I also believe that people in creative professionals tend to feel the intensity of emotions over themselves more as compared to the others. Yet, creativity is practical, which is applicable in daily lifestyle, business, office work and even relationships. I truly believe that if you learn the art of using your emotions properly, in order to make something out of your creativity, you truly can achieve whatever you desire by learning the technique of moulding your emotions into an art.

    DEFINING CREATIVITY

Creativity is hard to define as it is an expression of one’s individuality. I really feel that whatever work we do, directly or indirectly, it expresses our unique inherent creative talent. Whether it’s writing something, or arranging a home décor, cooking food, or even doing a face makeup – the way every person does it is exclusory, hence, it shall be considered as creativity.

However, being in a creative profession is altogether a different process, a different feeling. It requires much more than having creative thoughts or a unique talent. In this book, I am going to talk about the various emotions and feelings that a person goes through while working on a creative project and also about the various influences that occur to us while we are creating our most passionate work.

Although I know for a fact that creativity is just not for artists, it is everywhere, which includes doing day-to-day activities and thought processes but, here we are talking about how emotions being a direct source or factor, influence a person’s creative work.

Confidently, this book will be a best friend for all those who are either planning to pursue their creative passion or have doubts related to the balancing of emotions over creativity or wanted to know what it takes to be a creative individual.

There is a very common myth that creativity is all about making things up in an imaginative way. Creativity is not just about imaginations and making things up beautifully but, it is also about authenticating your raw emotions into a product that you want to make.

    That is why,

It is essential to channel your emotions and utilize it into making an art.

Back in December 2012, I had joined my very first job in an advertising agency as a content writer and within a month’s time, I lost my father. Need not to mention but I was emotionally devastated. Easily, I would have got days off from the job and could have let my suppressed emotions took over me mentally. Rather, I chose to join office on the 3rd day itself and used my pain into channelizing creativity. That’s how emotions and creativity work together.

If you don’t understand the forms in which creativity can come out, you’ll never be able to create new every time.

What most of us need to realize is that emotions are not needed to suppress down; rather they shall be moulded into an extraordinary product.

Be it happiness, sorrow, vulnerability, confusion or anger, every emotion can be utilized in its respective potential way for creating something or the other.

Let’s talk about regular life. No matter how happy you are right now or how sad you are feeling in this phase of life, without emotions, you cannot create. Emotions are vital to bringing out the best from within. Because no matter how creative or talented you are, the truth buried beneath capabilities will only talk, once you allow yourself to know the reality of yourself. Otherwise, you’ll never be able to know what your true potential is!

A very famous Bollywood movie Rockstar has a Hindi dialogue,

Tute dil se hi sangeet nikalta hai

    Meaning,

Without heartbreak, you cannot create music

Therefore, without emotional hindrances, you cannot create what’s shouting to come out from the within. But, how do we know what we want? How do we know what we are meant to be? In order to bring out the creative best!

These are some questions that even I used to ask myself in the process of growing as a writer. I used to ponder upon the ideology of self-loving and coming out of the barriers that we make for ourselves.

With deep conditioning on myself and on my emotions, I have come this far. Not easy, but worth sharing the journey through my book.

The book will be all about emotions – the happy ones, the depressed ones, the over-excited ones, the confused ones and lots more.

From those never-ending sleepless nights after a breakup to the excitement before joining the first day of your job, this book will speak about everything that influences our emotion over our creativity.

Although, I am going to talk about my personal experiences in writing as I am a content writer by profession and a book writer as well now, yet this book will also be of a great help to all those who are in creative professions and are unable to figure out the path to come out of their emotional instability. And with emotional instability, I mean, to be unable to sustainably survive through the path you have come for, on this mother earth.

The ups and downs; happiness and sorrows; love and hatred; are what my book will speak about. It will be an amalgamation of the things I faced, suffered, mistakes I made, I could have made and I came out from; basically the phases I have seen in all these years since I started pursuing writing as my passion and my career.

With writing, I will also be sharing my other experiences in the fields of advertising, radio, and food blogging, which will be beneficial for the ones, who are interested in making a name in the media/entertainment industry.

Talking about emotional constraints, they only become apparent when you feel an uncontrollable rush of or for something. For example: working in a coffee shop as a survival job will never give you an adrenaline rush for the whole of your life, whereas learning a guitar can certainly bring a plethora of emotions inside-out. And at every stage – from learning to hold the guitar to mastering to pursuing it as your passion/career, you will find yourself juggling through a lot of emotions at every stage as you grow from.

    That’s why,

This book will be an accomplice not just for writers but also for some of you who are personally dealing with emotional inconstancies.

Though, many of us feel that calling ourselves emotional is a sort of weakness; I truly believe that you cannot be successful in a creative field unless you have emotions inside of you.

I have never termed emotional people as weaklings but I believe that throwing the right emotion away at the right time is essential in order to survive today’s practical lifestyle.

In this book, I am going to be open about what it takes to be a full-time individual in a creative career. This book shall be helpful for all the youngsters who are somewhere thinking about choosing a career of their choice.

My vulnerabilities, failures, accomplishments and growth shall be of great help to all the creative writers, who want to overcome the fear of emotions that rise time to time on the creative abilities to think, create and write.

It will also be beneficial for all the other creative artists in the field of painting, photography, musicians, etc. because emotions are equally flowing in all the creative fields, whatsoever. But, that definitely doesn’t mean that creativity only applies to creative fields. Creativity is required in businesses, relationships, daily routines, professional jobs and so forth, in everything we do.

While I had also been a radio jockey for some time, during an event I was asked about my inspiration as a creative person.

I think creativity always for me has been an expression of my inner voice.

Without inner expression, creativity can never come out and for that inner expression to express outwards, one has to listen to a true voice of the emotions, compelling inside to nurture into a creative flower.

The reason why I wanted to write this book was that of my admiration towards creative individuals. I instantly connect with them. I remember, When I was entering in my 20s, I used to connect and make friends because of the same tastes in music or because of the same fondness towards food, etc.

The best part is that creative thinkers are real people; they are rebels and lunatics in their own unique way.

They tend to judge less, live more and that’s the philosophy I always trust in. I can’t trust people who judge a person in the first meet or judge a person through her/his appearance. That’s why, creative thinkers are better from their heads than their appearance, which also, by the way, means that they are likely to attract emotions more than others.

If you want to be a successful writer, painter, artist or anything which calls for creativity, this book will be your best friend in order to let you know what to do, what not to do, where you can fall, where you can rise and most of all, how you can pursue your passion after all the struggles that uninvitingly life puts in front of you. But most of all, my intention in writing this book is to help
