A BOOK FOR EVERY CHILD
The children reading today are the adults of tomorrow. The books we write can engage, educate, and empower them. There are two key things we can do: firstly, we can ensure every child can see themselves in a book; and secondly, we can usebooks to explore the similarities and differences between us as people in an authentic and sensitive way, to break down barriers and increase understanding. Three authors share their experience of creating books which accomplish these things.
Louise Gooding: Just Like Me
‘Just Like Me (Studio Press, 2021) is about forty neurologically and physically diverse people who broke stereotypes and features biographies from all around the world. People such as Stephen Hawking, Selena Gomez, Usain Bolt, Sudha Chandran, Naoki Higashida, Greta Thunberg, and many others. Each story includes struggles and triumphs, a motivational quote and information on each condition to help increase awareness and understanding.
