BODY of ART

“Feeling sexy is damn important, even if it’s just for you alone”

From the time we met, Douglas photographed me – dressed and nude. I remember waking up in the morning after our first night together, his lens pointing at me. Posing for him felt wonderful. We all have insecurities, but when Douglas tells you you’re beautiful, you feel beautiful and you become beautiful. He seemed to find me totally irresistible, even as I got older, and on mornings when I did not feel quite as irresistible. Douglas saw the world better through a camera.

Early in our relationship, I realised that to have a life together, I had to not only embrace but make myself part of his world. I always joked that ours was a ménage à trois: Douglas, the camera and myself. We had great times and great fights. We agreed to disagree. In the world of photojournalism you never stop, but it beats a typical nine to five job. It’s an exciting life. You work together, you sleep together, you win together.
