    About The Author

To Ian Murdoch, who made it happen, and Sonya, who helped me keep my promise.

Based on my process of moving on from redundancy to the life I am destined to lead, this book aims to guide and motivate you to find what it is you really want from life.

    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

I am humbled by the support I have received in writing this book. The gratitude began long before this story did. I am indebted to all the lessons willingly, sometimes harshly and often unwittingly, learned throughout my life: from books, films, theatre, art, people who are dear to me, complete strangers, and all those who have challenged me along the way. Through it all, I have learned that every experience is an opportunity for growth, and my musings are a result of the triumphs and tribulations that make up life.

This book is for everyone who dreams of living a better life and who is willing to cross the threshold into self-discovery. It would not be possible without the keen eye and expertise of editor Irina Dunn and the brutal honesty of Danny McGrady. Thanks are also due to the ever-patient team at Balboa Press, whose practical advice, further edit, graphic skills, and wealth of information guided me through the world of publishing. Thanks Rob Baxter for bringing to life my front cover concept for this publication of the book, and photographer Mark Bond for taking photos that look like me, but even better!

This book is about creating the life you want, and I have been lucky enough to be supported in this through the management of Geyer Pty Ltd and the staff and directors of Crosier Scott Architects (and their clients), who have always been accommodating of my flexible work choices. The respect you have for all the work I do, which goes beyond Interior Design, makes working with you a pleasure.

Appreciation is also extended to the people whose stories I have shared or expertise I have referenced. They say it takes a village to raise a child—well, it took a really big city to write this book!

My heartfelt thanks go to Sandy and Larry for being picky, honest, encouraging… and you. Love you both. wwwxxx

    AUTHOR’S NOTE

Change is good. Really, it is!

Well, who would have thought that my second book, would actually be my first book renamed? Actually, thanks to the feedback I have received, some contemplation time and the freedom to change most of the quotes with my own reflections, I’d like to believe this edition has more value for you than the first.

It’s a long story, which demonstrates (as life is want to do) that creating the life you want doesn’t always run smoothly. I learnt a long time ago that it doesn’t; but I believe that it’s through this light and shade in our experiences, that we are given the opportunity to revisit our thought patterns and habits and find new ways to design a more desirable life and create a better ‘you’.

Let’s continue to keep it real. Good design is tailored to the needs and values of the end user. So too, our own journeys are as unique as each design solution. Once we recognise the inherent power in our individuality, we have the capacity to design the life we want. We gain the freedom to clearly communicate our personal values and needs and can then find the clarity to go out there and actually live.

Like all great design, in life there will always be the
