The door slammed shut as I worked in the dining room. Noah had let me spread out my stuff on the dining room table for now, giving me more room to work. We never ate at the table anyway. It was just there for when we entertained, which neither of us had actually done in months. Especially not me. I was never someone who had many friends. Noah was my best friend and, in many ways, my only friend.

What’s wrong? I asked as Noah slumped down the hallway toward the main living areas of the condo. It was his place. I was just his roommate. Although given my current money troubles, he wasn’t charging me any rent.
