Chapter One

H ere we go, Tanya said as she pressed publish on her latest social media video. The young woman had always wanted to be famous, she had even majored in modern communications for just such a reason. She wanted her ideas to spread across the world, with an end goal of eventually giving a TED Talk.

That seemed like the pinnacle in Tanya’s still young mind. She had finished college and had set out to develop an online following that she could use as a springboard toward greater things.

There was a problem, however. No matter what Tanya did, she could not build the audience she knew she needed for success. Her posts and videos attracted a few likes here and there, but they did not go beyond that. Her follower and subscriber counts were stuck at low levels, attracting few people outside her small social circle of friends and family.

Tanya thought her latest video had been possibly her best yet. She had put it out on her various channels, hoping to finally get some traction. However, as Tanya sat back and waited, she knew this video, like all her others, would be another dud. She saw the impressions she was getting. The few people who saw her work were simply ignoring it.

Ugh, Tanya said in frustration as she nearly slammed her head down on her desk. She pounded the desktop, causing her equipment to shake. This sucks. I’ll never be famous.

Suddenly a giggle rang out through the room. Tanya jumped at the sudden intrusion. She was not someone who giggled. Gigglers did not get to give TED Talks.

Looking up, Tanya glanced around the room. She was alone, as she expected. No one was there with her. Her small apartment had thin walls, so it could have come from the adjacent apartment, although in the middle of the day, that seemed unlikely. Tanya knew her neighbors worked during the day.

Tanya’s frustration over her lack of social media success also came from the fact she was pouring all of her time, energy, and money into this venture. She did not currently have a job. She had spent her extra cash on cameras and a specially lighted mirror to create better lighting conditions. She used all her time creating content, including the lengthy editing processes needed to fix her mistakes and generally create perfect videos.

The mirror in particular had been her last purchase. This video had been the first video Tanya had created with the improved lighting. Her production value had skyrocketed with the better lighting. It looked professionally done. But none of that mattered if no one saw the video.

Maybe I just need to give up, Tanya said as she got up and threw herself down onto her adjacent bed, just out of the camera shot. She buried her face in the covers, desperate to find some success. Her money was running out. If she did not start getting some ad revenue or some other form of income from her online work, she would be forced to get a real job.

Tanya had assumed she would be a hot commodity coming out of college. Her time at Thatcher College had been important for her development as both a person and as an opinionated woman with something to say. Yes, she knew some of her classmates would roll their eyes when she began to speak. There was never a class period that went by where she remained silent. But none of them understood what she wanted in life.

You know there’s another way, came a voice. It was high pitched and a little breathy.

Tanya ignored the voice at first. She knew she was alone and she knew there was no way there was someone in her bedroom talking to her. The voice could not be real. It was clearly in her head, if she heard it at all.

Don’t pout, the voice continued. I can help you.

Tanya looked up, her eyes wet with tears. As before, the room was empty of everyone but her. However, then Tanya looked toward her desk with he mirror and the camera.

What the hell? Tanya practically screamed at the sight she saw in the mirror. Rather than her room reflected back at her, there was a woman. And not just any woman, but the most ridiculous and yet completely feminine woman Tanya had ever seen. The woman was gorgeous, but looked more like a female parody of a pornstar than an actual woman.

The two most obvious characteristics of this woman was her pink hair and her large chest.
