    The Cream of the Crop

Lily felt like a bundle of indecision as she walked into the nondescript office building. That described much of Lily’s life now. She was undecided about what she wanted to do with her life. School was over. She had graduated top of her class at Thatcher College. The world could have been her oyster, but she had no idea what she wanted to do with herself. But that was why she was here.

Lily had heard good things about Raymond Paris. He was a career counselor that came highly recommended by Lily’s advisor. Not that she put much stock in Professor Bank’s thoughts on the matter. He was a bit of a dirty old man in her opinion. Still, she was desperate and she knew that every day she waited before making a decision about her future would likely make it harder to achieve whatever she decided on. There were limited spots open in the various possibilities, including internships, graduate schools, and regular job positions. Seeing what all her friends and classmates were leaving school to do made her feel even more desperate not to have her future planned out.

The truth was, Lily knew graduate school was in her future. Her degree from Thatcher College gave her the leeway to pursue several different paths within the higher education system. She could remain in the academic realm, with a focus on becoming a professor, but she was not sold on that life. She was not even sure if teaching was the right thing for her. She had higher aspirations. She could go to law or business school. That would mean a minimum of two more years, possibly three more years,
