    ACKNOWLEDGEDMENTS

To my daughter Sara, from the moment you entered this world you showed me the meaning of love. I’m honored & blessed to be your Mom.

Additionally, to my family, my friends and clients who have believed in me and my craft and contributed to my business throughout the years in efforts to see me grow and be successful.

    THANK YOU!

    PRELUDE TO THE MASSAGE GAME

Prior to massage, I owned a physical therapy and chiropractic clinic for several years primarily focusing on personal injury and workers compensation clients. We handled the rehab and recovery of individuals following a motor vehicle accident or injury on the job. I also coupled traditional rehab protocols with aquatic therapy, and installed a pool in my facility, as aquatics was my favorite therapeutic exercise to incorporate in the rehabilitation process. The water allowed for an effective form of therapy at any phase in the rehab process, which is why I enjoyed it so much.

It was my first real understanding of how the body responded to treatment, and the results and joy from client’s, some who still are my friends to this day, intrigued me while giving me a great sense of fulfillment. So, once I chose to walk away from that field and begin my journey into my massage therapy career, I was inquisitive on all information regarding massage.

Throughout this book, my goal is to give you tips and recommendations to avoid some hiccups I encountered along the way, while also giving you the tools to help build your mobile massage practice. If you choose to have a massage space, many of these tips will still be useful for that massage model and you can simply adjust some of the suggestions to fit your scenario. A lot of this information I wish was available when I first entered the business, but I do hope all my experience and knowledge over the years brings you a lot of success in your business endeavors.

    THE BASICS

Choosing to become a mobile massage therapist has many advantages and disadvantages. A major advantage is reducing the overhead expenses one may have with renting a massage space.  Also, the ability to bring your massage practice virtually anywhere like homes, business’, to parties and hotels, mixes up your office environment daily.

    LICENSE & INSURANCE

Make sure your foundational structure of your business is in order before embarking on your mobile massage business. At the top of the list… you must have a valid massage therapy license that meets your state’s required guidelines and your CEU hours must be current.

Carry your small replacement license with you in the event someone asks to see your license. This has only happened twice in my career, but once I showed my license information, I also sent the link to the state website so they could do a license verification on their own as well.

It’s useful for that client in the event they want to verify anyone else’s license in the future. Save the therapist verification link under your state license information for quick reference.

Obtain Liability Massage Insurance – This may not be a requirement in some states, but it’s a good investment, especially when starting out to protect yourself in the event any claims are brought against you. A few liability insurance options:

ABMP.com offers excellent coverage at either $199 or $229 for the year

AMTAmassage.org offers monthly insurance payment at $20 or $235 for the year

    InsureBodywork.com offers a more cost-effective option at $96/year

► Please refer to company websites to check current liability insurance rates for each company, as they could have changed.

Vehicle Liability Insurance & Maintenance - Since constant driving is involved, make sure your car is in good working condition, and meets the minimum state requirements for liability coverage.

    COMPANY STRUCTURE & BRANDING

Create a name for your business, and setup a DBA or LLC. When choosing a name, do a google and social media search first and see what all comes up when you type it in. The name of your business should be unique and depending on how your brand grows, you may want to trademark it in the future and take it to another level.

If the name you desire is used often or if you do a trademark search and find one similar in the same field, the trademark could be denied. You also won’t create a strong web presence if
