If you are reading this, chances are, you are not a stranger to the Internet. You are already aware that with the right resources, the rest of the world is only one finger tap away from you. So, it makes a lot of sense financially and logically to bring your business online so that you can reach a broader audience without necessarily leaving the comfort of your office space. However, just because you are taking this grand step to get your business online does not guarantee success overnight—or any time soon, for that matter.
As with all things in life, there are rules and processes to follow to get to that destination and depending on the novelty of your niche, you may have to create your own path sometimes. There are a lot of articles, books, and resources on different topics—all of which are geared towards helping you and your brand thrive online—from marketing the traditional way to utilizing the various digital marketing tools embedded deep in the virtual sphere. The problem with these materials is that they all profess to possess this one trick that you can apply and transform your online business operations overnight.
The problem with those kinds of promises is that you do not have the complete picture. Every trick is focused on one aspect and that aspect is stuck in a specific timeframe. So, as the digital marketing world evolves, these tricks quickly become obsolete so trying to apply them in the world today would leave you with very disappointing results. I know because I have been there. When I started my first online business, it was in an industry that was just awakening
and I was among the first influencers in that era. The rules back then were very simple. Get the product, take some great pictures, put it online, and then market it. To make things even more impressive, I signed up three major socially recognized celebrities to represent my brand.
Business was great. In the first three months, I was already making six figures in sales. Life was beautiful. When I made my first million, I couldn't believe it—especially since my initial investment was under $1,000. A few months after making my first million, sales tanked. I could barely make five figures in sales and even then, I would have had to pour in a lot of money in adverts to make that much. I thought the problem was the industry I was in so I sold the company and packed things up. I set up a new base in a different niche which was just awakening at the time. I applied the same techniques that worked for me the first time and to my amazement, the results were abysmal. People were interested in the products I was selling but I just wasn't making sales.
I combed through several articles and books telling me how I can get the sales figures I wanted. When that wasn't working, I trained my focus on increasing my followership on all platforms. I did increase my followers but that did not directly translate to sales for me either. I was frustrated and began to feel like a one-hit wonder. I made the decision to convert my frustrations into productive efforts in growing my brand. I went back to the drawing board and started from the basics. It has been four years now since the day I made the choice to be more deliberate in my marketing efforts online. I have three businesses actively doing very well in their respective industries. My journey to this point has been characterized by a lot of ups and downs. I have suffered great losses that could have been avoided if I had the right kind of information. And I have made some major strides just because of simple but effective choices. I decided to compress my experiences over the years and put it here on paper for you. And that is what this book is about.
The social media marketing sphere is constantly evolving but if you get the basics right, you and your business can stay on top of those changes and continue doing well no matter what level you are in right now. Whether you are starting from ground zero or looking to take things to the next level, the content of this book is meant to help you make the right marketing choices that would bring about tremendous growth for you. The truth is that there are so many opportunities to grow and expand your business or brand and with this book, you can plot your way to the top.
