Look around you.
There has been a change in the way we communicate. At one point, you could watch advertisements on television. The radio showed you quick snippets of promotions. Magazines showed models and products to you as you browsed their pages.
Not today.
You could be practically anywhere in the world. You could be flying at 31,000 feet. You could be viewing a mobile device in a movie theatre, much to everyone’s chagrin. Or perhaps, you are on a boat out at sea.
In all of these locations, you can be bombarded with marketing promotions.
Today, you are more connected than ever. Through social media, you are never too far away from the next marketing campaign. In fact, one could say you are quite literally face-to-face with an advertisement.
However, with the advent of newer technologies for social media marketing, we need new tools. We need tools to help us manage our marketing efforts. We need tools for time management and effective teamwork. But we do not need these tools for large scale organizations. We need to provide these tools for small-scale businesses, entrepreneurs, and freelancers.

lGrowth of Social Media
Social media marketing was born with the need to reach a growing number of people. Brands wanted to reach out to more people in new ways. Unlike television, newspapers, and other advertising mediums, you can personalize your messages on social media. With that being said, if you could reach the right target audience, you had a better chance to make a sale. And not just for the revenues. Brands started using social networking to address concerns, communicate with the audience, and build brand value and loyalty.
It was a virtually untapped market. But thanks to the growing number of users, businesses could no longer ignore the huge potential of social media marketing.
It can arguably be said that social media marketing, or advertising, started with Facebook launching ‘Pages' in 2007. Brands, for the first time, were able to have a presence on the network. They could build their audience and convert them into customers. A new term was born—‘cost per fan.' This received a further boost when Facebook allowed paid advertising. This form of advertising was tweaked over time to make the system even better.
Now, there is a demographic matching, marketplace, and a lot more features to make Facebook advertising very efficient. Twitter, too, launched the ‘Promoted Tweet' in 2010. Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest, and LinkedIn all have their advertising products now that businesses can use for promotions.
Today, you will find almost every business on social media—from large multinational conglomerates to the neighborhood grocery store. Successful businesses are using social media marketing for lead generation, research, branding, customer retention, and e-commerce. New businesses and brands are launched on Facebook and on the other networks, revealing future plans and making announcements. Advertising, video, live streaming, demographic matching, and technology upgrades are some forms of technology available for businesses. These features help businesses find new and improved ways to reach out and market their brands.
Many businesses today adopt social media marketing to grant them a wider audience, better promotional capabilities, and the power of incredible reach. Gone are the days of spending enormous sums of money setting up billboards and hoping that your target audience will see them. Moreover, traditional forms of marketing do have the capacity to provide businesses with detailed insights. Everything seems rather arbitrary. How many people actually saw the billboard and reacted to it? Could businesses have paid the same amount and reached people through better means? Through social media, the time required to market services and products has been significantly reduced.
Customer service has improved. 83 percent of customers posting complaints on a website, like Twitter, receive a quick reply. With this, the overall customer satisfaction is also improved. Businesses are thus able to retain customers better.
80 percent of the US population is on social media. It's much the same everywhere in the Western and the developing or the developed world. 53 percent of people on social media are following a brand, but the popularity of social media and the impact on marketing is expected to be even greater in the next few years. With the growth of mobile technology, one can expect the reach of social advertising to increase tremendously.
