    The Age of the Internet is an exciting time to be in. With access to a wealth of information at the palm of the hand and the ability to interact with other people seamlessly across the globe, there is no better time to start a business or maintain one than now.

    But with every new era of technology comes a new set of problems that businesses have to regularly face. In this era in particular, there is a strong demand to keep one’s offerings relevant and responsive to the time without essentially straying from the business’s core goals and vision.

    Platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram offer individuals the opportunity to interact with one another through the creation and sharing of content. For advertisers, this presents an opportunity to directly interact with a new breed of consumers. However, this has its own set of demands as there have been changes in the patterns of consumer behavior brought about by exposure to these new forms of entertainment and communication.

    And then there is the matter of how one’s own reputation can easily affect the branding of the business online, whether for better or worse. In fact, the high level of interconnectivity and interaction in online communities means that it is easier to inadvertently hurt one’s own reputation and harder to repair the same.

    Lastly, there is the fact that the rules and standards on how one should create their content and observe proper decorum changes regularly in various social media platforms. What would work a few years ago would be rendered ineffective now and what was deemed acceptable long ago could be seen as offensive and inappropriate by many today.

    In essence, managing a business’s social media presence as well as extending its reach to new segments of the market is a tightrope walk. You have to balance different demands and standards coming from different social media platforms if you want to funnel quite a lot of traffic to your main webpages and enjoy high customer conversion rates.

    Before we go through the different social media marketing strategies, we have to address one thing first:

    Why is Traditional Marketing Failing?

    And to answer this question, we have to understand the basic concept of marketing. In essence, we create advertisements that say something about a business, have it shown in any of the channels we own or pay rent for, and then hope the advertisements draw in enough people willing to become paying customers to your brand.

    And so the usual sequence for traditional marketing is always this:

    Person watches or listens to something.

    Advertisement butts in for thirty seconds or so to tell the person about what a business is offering.

    Advertisement ends and the program resumes.

    Think of traditional marketing as like a horror movie jump scare. It’s something that people more or less do, not expecting to interrupt the mood, and minus the scares.

    However, such form of advertising through the different online media right now is suffering from the lowest possible click-through rates and the reason is quite obvious: It’s invasive, interruptive, and quite so unpredictable in its appearance that your modern potential customer gets more annoyed than intrigued.

    And, given the level of control one person has with the kind of information being fed to them these days, it is not too uncommon for people to tune out from these advertisements as soon as they pop up.

    According to surveys, traditional marketing has been rejected by potential audiences in a number of ways, including:
