About this ebook

I am a Throne.

There are orders and rules for me to follow. I do, right up to when I meet this human who spends time on something called a computer. He's antisocial, sarcastic, and the focal point of my suddenly vivid sexual dreams. Our game of push and pull is threated when a rival from his past shows.

That one made a mistake in going after what is mine to protect. A lesson he will soon learn.

I am…

    Hydok - Hayden West

    Chapter One

    Chaos.

His once orderly world had succumbed to chaos.

Everywhere he looked, uncertainty bloomed. It had taken root and spread. The result was millennia of foundations and rules, rocked to the core.

No one was safe. They couldn’t keep their own kind alive and it had him wondering how they were supposed to fight and protect humans.

None of it made sense. Even the Elders and the council were concerned by what had been occurring as of late. His brethren and friends had committed crimes and atrocities against their own kind.

He was in a tailspin and wasn’t sure what would happen when the ride ended. Whenever that was. Inhaling he closed his eyes as the scent of the ocean filled his nose. He came here when he wanted to be alone.

Even when he did want to be alone, he wasn’t sure he should be. They had caught two of the ones hurting their kind, but no one was naïve enough to believe it was over.

The hissing sound pulled his eyes open and he watched as more lava hit the ocean, cooling immediately. Nature was a thing of beauty.

Spreading his wings, he took to the air and just soared on the currents for a while. Allowing his brain to empty of anything and everything. He wasn’t on duty and just wanted to enjoy the silence and lack of stress buzzing through his mind on the main line of connection to him and his kind.

That meant he had one destination.

    Jin Harper.

With a few powerful beats of his wings, he made his way to the midsized place on the outskirts of the larger town and landed without a sound. The door was open, and he could hear the man typing away on his computer. He wasn’t all sure about those things, but this guy apparently made a great living doing what he did.

You know I can feel you out there. I thought you weren’t coming back.

There was snark in the tone and he smiled despite everything going on. Entering the house, he moved silently over the dark floors.

I thought you weren’t speaking to me anymore.

Never had a stalker before so not sure how I am supposed to act.

He never looked away from his screen. Hydok turned a full circle, taking in the boxes of old food and bottles of empty drinks.

You are living in squalor. You need to be outside and in the sun.

Fuck you. I’m not living in squalor. I was on deadline and couldn’t take time to clean up. Plus, I have housekeeping swinging by tomorrow. Layla will take great care of me.

Jealousy bit at him and he shoved it away. This human wasn’t his. He didn’t have the right to feel anything for him.

Unless of course, you want to put on the frilly skirt and clean the house. Finally, he lifted his head from the computer and looked at him.

Hydok lost his breath. The olive skin, onyx black hair that absorbed the light, or would if there was something other than the glow of the computer screen there. Longer in the front, his bangs fell forward, nearly covering his eyes while the back was short.

Dark eyes that never failed to get a rise out of him. Lips he had begun to envision even during daylight hours. Angular features. All he wanted was permission to touch and explore him.

I would love to see you in a frilly skirt and apron. Ass cheeks hanging out, perhaps even your cock.

Said cock thickened inside his gray leather uniform. He couldn’t explain what it was about this particular man who got this reaction from him.

Is that what it would take to get you to look away from that game and pay attention to me when I come here?

The condescending chuckle only turned him on more. Oh, Jin mocked. Is the big, bad Throne, hurt because he’s not the focus of my attention when he shows up here, uninvited?

What if I played your little game, human and said yes?

The man still didn’t bother looking away from his work to focus on him. Hydok ground his jaw, he wasn’t typically vain, sure he looked good. All his kind did, but the way he was ignored here made him wonder about a lot. He didn’t appreciate being led down this path of self-doubt and the need to be praised. It wasn’t what he had been created to do. Wasn’t supposed to need it.

    But he did.
