About this ebook

I am a Cherubim. Our times have begun to change and our duties with it, however, I still serve. And then I meet him. I cannot forget about him nor can I leave him alone as I know would be the smart thing to do. There is more to this man than others see. Perhaps than even I see. He calms the storm within me and I will lay claim to him, and he will become mine.

I am…

    Agi - Hayden West

    Chapter One

    Is this normal?

Agi tried to figure out this kind of irrational behavior. To a certain extent he got it. They were frightened and as they were young, it made sense. However, they also were greater than humans, created to be such. But these gathered here were acting no better than some of the human children he had observed.

This is uncharted territory for all of us, Agi. They are young and deserve a bit of patience and kindness.

The not so subtle rebuke from their healer Yocu fell soft yet containing the dagger sharp point he got.

As of this point, they’d been unable to locate the most recent missing of the younglings. A Virtue named Lochier had been taken while out with a Seraphim. She hadn’t done so well either, knowing she’d been unable to save him.

    Enough!

He drenched his single word with enough compulsion that all of them listened to him. The incessant anger, fear, and chatter in his head was getting to be to much. Scrubbing his hand along his bald head, he shook his head.

You know better than this. We are all family and we should be supportive of each other. Not making fun of them, or trying to make their pain greater than our own. This is a disgrace upon our Maker. He expects better of us and while some may give you a pass for being young, I will not. These times are dangerous and until we find the ones behind this they will continue to be so. Time to grow up.

The group settled and turned to look up at him. He cracked his neck and walked a full circle around the group, noting how they rotated to keep him in sight. His tan wings with their blue edging spread wide to soak up the sun as he moved.

    Will he come home?

Agi sighed and stopped his trek. He scratched his black scruff along his jaw. Sinking to one knee, he reached out and touched the youngling’s face. An up and coming Domination. Kayla had a heart of gold, it was an obvious trait and yet, he couldn’t help but notice the streak of stubbornness within her as well. He’d seen it come into play when she was with some of the others. She loved giving orders and expected her peers to follow them without questions.

She closed her eyes and burrowed her soft cheek into his touch before looking back at him with those indigo eyes.

We are trying to find him. Looking everywhere we can to make sure he can be brought back to us.

Zarida feels this is her fault. I hear her crying at night.

He stared at the solemn young one. We know. It wasn’t often their kind cried but the fact the Seraphim was having nightmares and an extremely rough time was known by everyone. Everyone was concerned. Sure, they had empaths who were more in tune to others than some, but even so, for one to have taken all of this on herself had been unheard of. Until Zarida. We will help her as well.

Kayla got to her feet and wrapped her arms around him. Sometimes they needed the touch and he didn’t mind providing it for them. Afterall, someone had done the same for him once. Before she stepped away, her innocence touch glanced along the blue edges of his tan wings. Bringing them in close, he enclosed her within them, offering her the full force of his love as it streamed through her.

    Save them.

She whispered the words and yet he heard them loud, as if accompanied by banging on a drum. We will do the best we can.

He wanted to promise her that no one else would be lost, but he couldn’t. They hadn’t even figured out who was betraying them from the inside. He’d heard the rumors and the whispers, frankly they scared him. personally, he had to hold onto hope that it wasn’t as they were claiming. If that one had turned against them, they were all going to lose.

Separating from the girl, he stood and touched her under the chin before moving away.

    Agi.

Wings flaring, he took to the sky, answering the call from Rao, another Seraphim who had found a human lover. As he ascended, he saw the one who’d called him. Rao was nothing but light, pale blond hair, light blue eyes, and faded rose wings that shimmered in the sun.

Are you flying with me today?

I am. I saw your interaction with Kayla. You are very good with the younglings.

They powered on and rose easily to begin their patrol.

Some days I feel so old and yet
