This book of poems is dedicated to my mom
MURIEL A. DUNN
who has written hundreds of poems
and has inspired me
and put poetry in my DNA.
Her poem My God
is the very first poem in this book.
Mom, you are now a published author, along with your son.
Love,
Your Son Nelson
Special Thanks
I would like to thank those folks who helped me
put this project together.
lf you’ve never tried to publish a book let me tell you it’s
a lot of work put in by dedicated friends and family.
Without their help and encouragement
this book would have never come to fruition.
My wife, Cathy Dunn
My brother, Darrin Dunn
My sister-in-law, Doris Dunn
My friends, Josh and Kim Menken
My sister-in-law, Sheri M. Pellerin
My friend, Ken Long
Chapter 1
#1 My God
Guide me day to day
Lead me in your way
Teach me how to pray
To know just what to say
So if I might, I may not go astray
Oh God I need you
To you I give confession
Cleanse me from transgression
My heart take in possession
Free me from depression
Strike me with impression
I pray in great succession
Oh God I Love You
Written by my Mom Muriel A. Dunn on 6/23/79.
#2 Paid On Time
Hammers, nails, screws, lumber and saw
To build a home you need them all
A solid foundation and a well drawn plan
All of these, along with a good lead man
A bunch of guys willing to work hard
Throw in several loads from the lumber yard
You’ll need some electricians and plumbers too
Not just any old handyman will do
You have to have the training and skill
Along with the determination and the will
With all the right people and all the right stuff
Throw in a paying customer and you have enough
Do all the work with skill, don’t waste a dime
Because a happy customer pays you on time

#3 You
Love is not a word you should just say
like bike or work or even pray.
It should be saved for just your bride who
no matter what has been by your side.
With her you can be who you really are
she makes you feel like you’re her northern star.
I didn’t think love could last this long
thirty years and we’re still going strong.
Thank you babe for a life so sweet,
just think it all started on Catherine Street.
I found that one whose love is true
because my love God gave me you.
Inspired by my beautiful wife Cathy on 6/13/06.
#4 See Into Me
I’ve made my living from breaking my back
Making a mansion from a broken down shack
With nailing and plumbing and some wiring too
There was always something I needed to do
I’ve traveled all over and built all kinds of stuff
My body is asking when enough is enough
I wonder if someday my writing could pay
Just enough to live from day to day
Then my body could rest from its pain
Earning my living with my pen and my brain
I’d write down my memories of family, friends and wife
Just little glimpses of my personal life
Hope that the public would give them a look
And come off the hip to buy my little book
It wouldn’t cost much maybe a buck or two
What would you charge to see into you?
I wouldn’t expect world wide popularity
With millions of poets that’d be a rarity
Just sell enough for my
