Description

In episode 31 of The One Fab Day Wedding Podcast, we're travelling beyond the wedding day itself, into the tricky post-wedding period. This episode is a direct response to the many readers and listeners who’ve told us that they struggled to fill the gap after their vows had been exchanged, and the confetti had been thrown. Post-wedding blues, otherwise known as post-wedding comedown, are extremely common, and quite natural when you consider what an exciting couple of months you've had. So, over the next half an hour or so, we’ll give you some useful tips and tools for how to deal with the post-wedding slump, and hopefully help you get excited for what the next phase of life brings!Episode Breakdown: Post-Wedding Comedown: The Struggle is RealWedding tip: Claire's top tip this week is to make a plan for peeing in your wedding dress!Main topic: Today's main topic is all about the very real phenomenon of post-wedding comedown, also known as post-wedding blues. Many couples report feeling sad, lonely, and a little directionless after their big day, so we wanted to offer some advice on how to manage this potentially tricky transition. Obviously, if at any point during the post-wedding period, your feelings become overwhelming, it’s time to pay your GP, counsellor or psychotherapist a visit. In most cases, though, you should benefit from following the tried-and-tested tips in this episode!Wedding dilemma: A listener writes, “I was just wondering if you had any tips or anything for a bride who's realising throughout planning that she’s a little bit of a loner? I've never had strong friendship groups, and always sat on the outskirts with one or two good friends, but it’s only now as I’ve sat down to check over the guest list, that I realise that I only have three friends coming to the day (plus their partners), and six coming to the evening. For reference, our daytime total is 75 guests and evening about 130 guests. My fiance’s friend count for the day is seven guests, but his evening is 32 guests! Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining that he’s got a big guest list, but I suppose, until now, I never really thought I was such a loner that I don't even have 10 friends to invite to my own wedding. I find I'm relying heavily on the two people closest to me, but only because I don't have enough other friends to spread the wedstress out to! Any tips or ways to just get over it are greatly appreciated!” Our advice for this bride is to ditch the word "loner" from her vocabulary and try to let go of the idea that there's a perfect number of close friends a person should have at their wedding!Something to do when you're not planning your wedding: Grab a potter's wheel and someone who boasts the animal magnetism of a 1990s Patrick Swayze, because, in this episode, Claire's recommending you take up pottery! Thanks for listening!
