About the Author
To my parents, Joe Ceaphus and Esther Faulkins, who raised me to be the woman I am today. My father was called Addresser because he knew how to address a person. I liked the way he called me Ol’ Staple. My mother, a very strong woman, raised me to be strong. She always told us, Don’t say nothing. Let it go, because a time will come when you can say what it is that you want to say and no one will get mad.
I have found that to be true.
To my husband, Kenneth, for his understanding during the writing of this work. It wasn’t easy for him or me. He cooked, washed, and cleaned—the whole nine yards.
And to my daughter, Kendra. I remember that when she was three days old, she lay in her crib holding her right hand as if she were holding a pencil or a pen. I smiled and said to myself, My baby is going to be a writer.
In the third grade, she won the young-author contest for the county schools. Her title was, My Mom Is My Best Friend.
I am looking forward to her first book.
