About this ebook
Adrainne Renee Thompson
Adrainne Renee Thompson, A Work of A.R.T. is her brand name (derived from her initials). She enjoys many hobbies and considers herself blessed with many talents. I'm the epitome of "Jack of All Trades" if you will. She finds her highest passions to be creative writing and motivational public speaking. She has been writing since she was 11 years old, if not younger. "Writing is therapeutic and it's the greatest form of self-expression." She has been quite successful with selling poetry pieces and speaking engagements. #wordsunleashed. She is hoping to retire in the next three to five years, to enjoy her grandchild(ren) and hopefully...her new Godly man.

Happy Father’s Day

I. Introduction
My father was 41 and my mother was 39 when I was born. Back then, that’s considered being born to older parents. Things were quite different then, than they are now. Nowadays, getting pregnant later in life is considered healthy-for some women. And, both parents in the home, seemingly a thing of the past. And now, some women are opting to be single moms. Things have really changed in the world; we are definitely being faced with ‘new normals’ in a lot of areas.
Nonetheless; I was saying, I had both of my parents; they were strong in their faith, morals, tradition, and education. I had a roof over my head, clothes on my back, and food to eat. I had a secured family life with all the basic essentials. But something was still missing for me.
There wasn’t as much ‘soft tender moments’ and affection as I would have appreciated (and probably needed), but I knew I was loved.
Although born the ninth child, I was -an only child- at home from the age of 11 until I went off to college; well, the only biological child. After raising nine children my parents became foster parents for years. I still didn’t have them all to myself. I still had to share their attention…and my room. I was put in a position where I became the older sibling. Suddenly I was responsible for someone younger than me, that wasn’t even related to me. And no one asked my permission to make all these changes.
Now with a new family make up, more responsibilities, parents with rigid rules, older siblings who left me there [due to other obligations], and a best friend who had passed away, yeah, I’d say I had some deep seeded emotions going on. And, sadly I couldn’t express them like I wanted to because growing up in those days children were seen not heard. Talking back, even to explain a situation, was a cause for a backhand. So, with no way, and no one; to truly vent my real feelings to I would steal away to my room and start writing.
Although my parents had strong boundaries, I am sure it was guided by the grace of God. Looking back, I’m truly thankful for Christian parents because there are so many other outlets I could’ve turned to, other than writing, if I didn’t have that strong moral foundation, background, and that firm discipline.
My writing started in a diary. The little pink one with a little lock
