About this ebook

It Started With A Kiss

Tabitha Winters—I wrote science fiction books, and at twenty-eight years old, I made an excellent income from my writing. So why would my agent ask me to try something different? She wants a sexy love story, perhaps a women's romance.

Those tales of love at first sight, and the stories of toe-curling kisses and being swept off your feet, were all lies; made up to sell books. Yes, romance books were most women's go-to genre, but I believed it was because women were looking for something they lacked in their own relationship. Something to spice up their love life, add a little fantasy before joining Mr. Boring in bed to have the same old vanilla sex.

Sex wasn't all that, the stories were rubbish, and I was determined to prove it. My research for project 'Just one Kiss,'  started now.

Winston Breckinridge—I was bored out of my mind. I was tired of clubbing every weekend and sifting through the same type of female. They were all alike. The only difference was the clothes they wore or didn't. I wanted someone unique. But where did one go for such a purpose, especially when one had money?

I attracted women, but it was always the wrong sort. I wanted someone who didn't care that I was rich, didn't care that I was the best looking man on the planet. I wanted someone who wasn't looking for a one night stand. I was determined to settle down and start a family before I turned thirty-five.

When I spoke to my best friend about it, he offered up a bet. "Win, you will never find a woman who isn't seeking at least one of those things. I'll give you thirty days to find Miss Right. When the time is up, you will end up owing me because there isn't a woman like that on the globe."

We spent one summer a few years ago traveling and seeing some of the United States. One of our most memorable trips was to Nashville and Memphis.

The people were so friendly and hospitable. If you ever have a chance to visit, do it. Leave caution at the door and have a good time. You only live once. Live it to the fullest.

I DISCONNECTED THE call and dropped my cell phone on my desk. "Just one kiss? I don't think so."

Julie was a great agent, she never doubted my abilities, but she said my publisher wanted something different. Science-fiction was popular when I first started writing, but it wasn't now. She claimed most women wanted to read about vampires, werewolves, hot men, sex, or anything that was taboo, packed with romance or fantasy.

I tried to explain that I wasn't the right type of person for the project. I'd never been in love, never been swept off my feet, and I balked at the movies and books loaded with such nonsense. The couples who claimed they fell in love, at first sight, were fooling themselves, and I would prove it.

But where would I go to begin my research? I hadn't had a real holiday in years. I couldn't think of a better way to prove my theory than while on vacation. So what location would be the best one to find single, unattached men begging for a chance to woo me?

I took out my phone, thought about it for a few moments, and then called my friend Debbie. She was in-between boyfriends, but she was always looking for the next one. She attracted men faster than death attracted flies.

'Tabby, you never call me in the middle of the day unless you want something. So what is it?'

Hello, Tabitha. It's so nice to hear from you. Instead, I get, What do you want? I'll call Becca and see if she wants to go with me to Nashville for a few weeks, all expenses paid by me. See ya. I sat back and waited for it to hit her.

    'Wait, did you say, Nashville?'

Yes, Deb, but you sound awfully busy.

'Will it help if I tell you I'm sorry. Please forgive me and tell me what's up.'

    I chuckled. Research.

'Research? What in the world is in Nashville that pertains to science fiction? Unless they've had aliens or visitors from outer space. That's a perfect place for a hook-up, and it just so happens that I'm single.'

    That's what I thought.

'So now I'm really curious. What are you seeking? You don't drink, you don't like country music, and sometimes I don't think you even like men.'

They're nice to look at, but I can take 'em or leave 'em.

    'Bullpucky.'

Anywho. My agent insisted that I try my hand at writing a romance novel. She is threatening to leave me if I don't. You know me better than anyone else, and so I thought I could watch you and see how you operate.

'That sounds like a party to me, but you, not so much. So what's the catch?'

Meet me at the food court in the mall. I'm doing this whether you decide to join me or not. We can talk there, and if you do decide to come, then you can help me buy some appropriate clothes.

'I will meet you at noon, near the Blue Boutique. How soon would we be leaving on this research journey of yours?'

    "I have to finish up
