About this ebook
Lexi is being haunted by her grandmother...
“Oh Grandma, I can’t believe this is happening to me.” The floodgates opened completely, and I felt a comforting presence surround me.
‘It will be alright, Lexi. Don’t give up, Lovey. I think Mr. Dimples is the answer to both our prayers.’
She’s all alone in the world except for her cat, Daisy.
Unexpectedly, she finds support from the man whom she was trying to get a job with...
“Can we talk about your offer? Were you serious about the secretary job?” He hadn’t mentioned it again, and I desperately needed the work.
“I am, but first I want you to meet with your new doctor to make sure that you can do it. Did you say you have an appointment to meet with him this Monday? Lexi, you’ve been diagnosed with cancer. That gives us few more days to work on our bucket list.”
They take the journey of a lifetime together; will it be too late to make their dreams come true...
Lexi~~
For some reason, I heard my grandma’s voice saying to me, ‘Lexi, if you want something bad enough, you’ve got to stand out. Do something that will make whoever you’re speaking to remember who you are! Be unforgettable’ I searched her desk looking for something that would give me a clue as to what I could do to make me more memorable.
I noticed she had a picture frame sitting on the desk next to her computer screen. ‘Pick it up, Lovey.’ It was my grandma’s voice again. I reached out to turn the frame so that I could see who was in the picture. I’m not sure what happened exactly, I only heard the receptionist scream out a bunch of words that I’d never heard a woman use before. Then she jumped up from her chair, and frantically spun around apparently looking for something as the words, “You, stupid twit! Now, look what you’ve done!” Left her bright red colored lips.
I still wasn’t sure what it was that I had done and rushed around to her side of the desk to see what it was that she was accusing me of. “I told you to leave. If you had done what I asked this wouldn’t have happened.” She was still yelling at me, and the moment I stepped into her play area, she yelled even louder at me. “What do you think you’re doing back here?”
“I wanted to help, what are you looking for?” I was looking around her small space and had no clue what for. It was comical really, and despite all my good intentions, I started to laugh. After seeing the expression on her face, I should have ducked. Something hit me hard in the eye, and I felt myself fall to the ground...

Perry pulled into her driveway and kept the car running…
Thank you for the unforgettable day, Lexi. Before I walk you inside, you must promise me that tomorrow, you will go along with whatever I have planned.
He rubbed the top of my fingers with his thumbs as he spoke.
I met his eyes, and a jolt of electricity went through me. He did crazy things to my emotions. I wondered what it would be like to kiss him, then quickly shook my head. I will, but only if you promise not to break the bank on me. Promise, Stirling!
His quick grin took my breath away for a moment.
Not to worry, I’ve got a large bank.
He squeezed my fingers before he released them. Perry, I’ll walk Miss Renaud to her door.
Course you will, Sir. See you in the morning, Miss Renaud.
Good night, Perry.
Stirling helped me out of the car and walked me up the stoop.
Would you like me to help you inside? If you need me to stay with you until you fall asleep, I’d be more than happy to.
Thank you, but I’ll be okay. I need some time on my own to process everything. What time will you be here in the morning?
He didn’t say anything right away, then grabbed onto both of my shoulders and leaned in to kiss me on the forehead. It was comforting, yet the brief contact left me wanting more. He flashed his dazzling grin at me.
Early. You’ve got my number with you now, call me if you need anything.
He hesitated for a second before I saw him walk out the front door.
How early…?

Lexi Bella Renaud
Lexi~~
My name is Lexi Renaud and I have an appointment to speak with Mr. Dexter. Would you please let him know that I’m here?
The platinum blond receptionist seemed a little put out that I’d disturbed her important game of solitaire that was taking place on the computer screen.
Didn’t you get the message I left you? I called you over an hour ago, to ask if you would reschedule. Mr. Dexter is busy with a client. Please call back later, and I’ll set you up with another time.
Her unfriendly response told me that she had already dismissed me, and immediately she was focused back on her screen.
I desperately needed this job. Any job really since I’d already given my notice at the small diner that I worked at. But there was something about this particular job that called to me. I wasn’t going to give up that easy. I looked for her name. Miss Carney, I’m sorry I didn’t get the message earlier. My phone hasn’t been working properly; it’s something to do with the software. Could I wait to speak with him?
I wouldn’t tell her that I’d spent my last few coins on the taxi that had brought me here.
I watched her roll her eyes at me. Obviously, her game wasn’t going well, and it was now my fault that she wasn’t winning. Miss Renaud, I’m sorry, but that isn’t my problem. I don’t know how long Mr. Dexter will be with his client. Please call back later to re-schedule. I’m working on some very important things, and I don’t have the time to look for your application. I’ll find it later and call you then. Good afternoon.
Penny, we’ve already discussed this. I can’t just take off and leave. I’ve got a business to run. Can we talk about this later over dinner perhaps?
She was pouting again. I used to think it was cute when she used it on me. When had it become annoying? She sauntered towards me and began to unbutton her already transparent silk top.
Maxi, you’ve promised me that we’d get away together. The chance for you to spend more time with my father and me would be amazing. What can I do to change your mind?
She stopped in front of me reached out to pick up my hand, then she placed it over her breast.
Penny,
I spoke to her as she continued teasing me. I’ve already told you that we’ll go in June. That’s when everything should be settled.
I felt her hands moving over the bulge she had nick-named, Spike. She began fumbling with my belt and tried to slip her hand inside my pants. I wasn’t in the mood for one of her heated exchanges today, but let her continue. Then very abruptly I heard my secretary yelling words that I hadn’t heard since I’d been in the Marines.
Jesus Christ, Miss Carney! What in the hell is going on out there? Penny, get yourself dressed!
I caged Spike, and quickly put myself back together.
I rushed out into the foyer and saw someone wearing purple, fall to the ground…
Lexi~~
‘Stay down Lexi, and keep your eyes closed.’ What?
‘Keep your eyes closed, and don’t say anything until I tell you too. I did as I was told and as soon as I hit the ground, I heard a voice that set the hair on my arms on end.
What in the hell is happening in here, Miss Carney? Who is that on the floor, and what did you do to them?
I held my eyes tightly closed and resisted the urge to open them when I felt him move around to the side of the desk where I lay on the floor.
She didn’t sound so high and mighty now as she began stammering. I kept as still as I could so that he wouldn’t know that I was awake and very aware. I wanted to laugh when I heard her start to speak. I…was trying…
Yes, Miss Carney. You were trying what exactly? Start talking, you have ten seconds to explain.
I knew the second he was on the floor next to me. He carefully moved the hair that had fallen over my face away. I heard him gasp. Uh-oh, that didn’t sound very good.
I…She…Mr. Dexter, she threw coffee at me when I told her that she couldn’t see you today. She became belligerent and said she wouldn’t leave and told me she was going to wait until you were finished with your client. Then she came around here and lunged for me…
I heard my grandma’s voice, ‘Liar, you’re a big fat liar!’
I had to do something to protect myself. So, I swung at her. I really didn’t hit her that hard.
I almost wanted to defend the girl; almost. She hadn’t hit me hard, I was only doing what my grandma had asked me to do.
I felt him caressing my face. Yes, that was a caress, I know it was. ‘Lovey now’s your chance, and make it good.’ Okay then. What happened, ouch, my eye hurts.
I gingerly tried to open my eyes. I went slowly to play up the pain factor.
I’m sorry, Miss…Are you alright? Should I call for an ambulance? Miss Carney, call 911.
I couldn’t let him do that, I wanted so badly to see his face closer. Maybe I was hurt more than I realized, my vision was still a little blurry.
Oh, please, you don’t have to call an ambulance, I can’t afford it.
Then his face came into my view, and I almost wished that I couldn’t see him so plainly. Oh, my!
Lucky for me he took the statement the wrong way. My ‘Oh my,’ sounded like an exclamation of pain, when in reality, it was said in pure pleasure. He was gorgeous, drop absolutely freaking dead gorgeous. Wow, such a perfect smile and he were two inches from my face; kissing distance.
You won’t be paying for anything, Miss... I just want to make sure that you’re all right.
I felt his arm move under my neck. Can I assist you into a sitting position?
Then I heard a blaring voice coming from somewhere behind him saying, Maxi, you might hurt her. Leave her where she is and call for an ambulance.
‘Now, Lexi. Go for it girl.’ Why are you in my head, grandma? I’m alright really, could you please help me sit up?
his arm was still underneath me, and I didn’t want him to pull away…to lose his touch…to smell him so close. He had a nice smile.
Of course, Miss…Who is she, Miss Carney?
She is your 1:00 appointment. She was here to interview for the personal assistant job. I left a message on her phone earlier to explain that you’d already filled that position.
I watched the man who had just released his hold on me turn and stare up at the woman who had hit me.
She had hit me, I’d never had that happen to me before. I lifted my hand to touch the area around my right eye. Ouch, why did you punch me so hard?
Stirling~~
I hurried around the desk to see a girl laying on the floor, and I swear to God, she was glowing. What in the hell happened in here, Miss Carney? Who is that on the floor, and what did you do to her?
I couldn’t stop myself from getting on my knees next to her.
How could anyone have hurt this beauty? She was stunning and so small. I heard Miss Carney stammering and she was saying something about coffee being thrown at her. I carefully moved the hair away from the girl’s face. I felt my face heat up instantly. I continued to push the hair away from her face.
Yes, Miss Carney, you did what? Start talking, you have ten seconds to explain.
This girl was lovely, there was no way she could have done anything that would justify my secretary hitting her. I was getting concerned, she hadn’t opened her eyes yet.
Then I heard her try to speak, What happened?
I wasn’t sure what the rest of the sentence was, it was as if a light had been turned on somewhere. A blinding, beautiful light and this girl were in charge of the switch.
I believe that I asked after her welfare, then I remembered that I’d seen her fall. She could be seriously hurt. Miss Carney, call 911!
She was trying to say something, so I leaned in closer to listen. That was my first mistake. I could smell her perfume, it reminded me of apples. No, in reality, it smelled like my grandmother’s fresh apple pie. Apples and cinnamon, and on her it smelled like I was home.
Then I understood what she had first said. I put my arm under her neck to help her into a sitting position. That was my second mistake, I was just a breath away from her lips. I watched her eyes flutter open. They reminded me of the first time that I’d gone fishing with my grandpa. We had found a deep hole while we’d been out on his fishing boat. I saw that deep blue-green as I studied her eyes. That memory made me smile.
Then I heard my fiancée’s voice, You might hurt her, why don’t you call an ambulance?
I remembered where I was. Then the girl I still held in my arms asked me for my help to sit up. As soon as she was upright, I pulled away from her. That was my third mistake; I felt as if I’d just lost
