Chapter 1

It’s just another day, another day of routine. Waking up, morning exercises, getting on my way to work. Just another routine day. I don’t even think about it anymore, it’s pure autopilot by now. I need a way out. I decide to give a call to Robert, an old friend who I haven’t seen in a couple of months and invite him to have lunch. I know he works relatively close to where I work. I met him a few years ago. We used to work together. We both moved on from that old job, but kept in touch. Our habit of drinking a few beers together on Friday nights and party later on was more than enough to create a friendship. We agree to go have lunch in a Mexican restaurant downtown. We used to go there back in the day.

We meet at the restaurant. I arrived on time as usual. He was outside by the door smoking a cigarette. We both get a smile on our faces and greet each other. First a handshake, and then a hug. It feels good to see him after that long. He starts telling me he has a new lifestyle. He became a playboy, someone who would have several dates per week. His whole new style, he had started going to the gym, with a visual enhancement since the last time I saw him; he got a tattoo in his whole right arm from the wrist up to the shoulder and on his chest. The tattoo was not visible at first because he was wearing a shirt, but he told me about it and showed it to me. The tattoo is a black and red tribal. It reminds of the 90s, when they became popular.
