About this ebook

A plague has crept into the Churches of Jesus Christ unnoticed. In this controversial book, author Erik Angus MacRae tackles the four cardinal deceptions that are leading men and women into bondage and their doom in the midst of the very churches where they hoped to find freedom, liberty and salvation.

Author

Erik Angus MacRae

Born Erik MacRae to Richard Warren and Valerie MacRae, the author has spent his whole life in the region of Ontario, Canada and grew up in Scarborough. Growing with a troubled childhood, and uncertain of what to make of his future Erik would face numerous bouts of depression, anxiety and escapism in his life until becoming a Christian and gaining a more thorough understanding of the literature of the Holy Bible of Christianity which gave him a sense of meaning and purpose and ultimate destiny. Erik has been through multiple denominations of the Christian faith with exceedingly different doctrinal stances, first beginning his journey in a Baptist-Calvinist Church, where he learned the basics of Christ for about seven years. After this he would become involved on studies in the Hebrew Roots movement, but later defected to a more biblically-oriented messianic congregation. Finally, he would identify as non-denominational and serve in discussions with numerous Christians of all denominations. He is very zealous for defending the authority and legitimacy of the biblical text and its core dictates.   Throughout his informational journeys he has studied the work of the Minnesota pastor Daniel Joseph of Corner fringe Ministries closely for over 3 years and numerous topics pertaining to apologetics. Fancying himself an apologist at heart, Erik carries a great passion for “equipping the sheep” of the Christian faith through education to defend their Faith, and for aiding the non-Christian in understanding the complex and numerous evidences that point to the reality of God and His Person in the Father, Son, Holy Spirit and His Word as the Scripture of the Holy Bible. He has a deep interest in Christian philosophy, Biblical archaeology, and comparative studies, and for bridging denominational gaps through discussions of differences.

    FOREWORD

This book is heavy for me to write. I love the Church. All of my fondest memories in life, the best of humanity that I’ve seen, I’ve seen it in the Church. From a local Baptist congregation in Scarborough to a messianic congregation in the west end of Toronto, a multi-site non-denominational congregation with roots in New York, another smaller local congregation. In these, I encountered much beauty; The Gospel was made available. Copies of the Bible were freely handed out. In many, the concept of Sola Scriptura was at least orally taught. The people, the fellowship: Joining together in bible studies, cooking food for one another, and washing one another’s feet. Serving the poor; Bringing food and clothes to the homeless together. We would praise God and worship, and celebrate the Savior, Jesus the Son of God.

However, not all is well. Even in these, and probably in all, I have seen a strange undercurrent in the Churches of Christ. A disturbing comfort. A sense of continuity, but not of Christ: All things the same, every day as the last in a manner of speech. But not all days are the same, and not every day is the last. I am confronted more and more with the fact that there are significant issues in modern Christianity, and the people have been negligent on these issues and the danger they hold.

Since I will be speaking to doctrinal issues, humility is required, and the refrainment from judgment on my part. I wish to confess that I have not at all lived a perfectly obedient life of serving Christ. I have had numerous sin issues and addictions to deal with in my life, which is supposed to have a humbling effect on how one speaks. We can recall the parable from Luke 18, in which a self-righteous Pharisee and an honest sinful tax collector approach God. Many times, I had the life of a tax collector and the mouth of a pharisee. I have had many moments that I am not proud of and deeply regret. So, when I speak to the Church on an issue of teaching or doctrine, it is not coming from a place of personal judgment or self-exaltation. My past and recent mistakes would confront me in my mind and humble me if I did. However, neither is a failure to carry a model life like some an invalidation of the right to speak on these issues. On the contrary, the principle of the watchman of Ezekiel 3 indicates that I must speak if I am seeing something that others are not. With that said, let us address these issues humbly and fearfully.
