This book is dedicated to:
Poppy, Mommy, Daddy, Paul, Nana and all my other relatives and friends who have preceded me over the rainbow.
Wish we had more Sundays, more fun days,
more walks, more talks, more laughs
More hugs, more kisses, more sand in the hourglass…
The Flag
If you shoot at it's Stripes will they rupture and bleed
If you choke hold it's Stars will they cry I can't breathe
If it's raised in surrender will it stop a brutal beating
No. It's just a symbol. It's not a Human Being
If it's wrongfully convicted will that make it less free
If you stopped and frisked it will it feel angered and aggrieved
In the face of an injustice will it try to intercede
No. It's just a symbol. It's Not a Human Being
For the poor and oppressed can it acknowledge their need
Is the right to protest it, still a guarantee
If it's disrespected by taking a knee
Then how can it wave, O'er the Land of the Free
When We The People
deny each other's freedoms
And those in charge help to mislead them
Then the flag becomes a cloth just blowing in the wind
Much like the master's laundry our ancestors once took in...
Tortured
I need love to sustain me
Uplift and contain me
A passion so pure and sweet
It calms my anxiety
When teetering on the ledge
Standing close to the edge
I need love to set me free
From this tortured mentality
Keeping love at a distance
Why am I so resistant
Others would feel holy blessed
But me, I'm a tortured mess
Like water rushing out of control
Drowning out my very soul
No need for an S.O.S.
I am just a tortured mess
Trying hard to abstain
From love's warped and twisted games
There's a mystery to untangling it
To growing without strangling it
But I'm so scared of losing you
Some say I'm abusing you
Regret that I can't enjoy
What old patterns could destroy
Ancient wounds scar the heart
A bad love has left its mark
Can't seem to let it rest
Guess I'm just a tortured mess
Like water rushing out of control
Drowning out my very soul
No need for an S.O.S.
I am just a tortured mess
Set the Mood
Suggestive shadows cast by the moon.
A sensuous smile from across the room.
Inhaling the scent of a fragrant shampoo.
Intimate things that set the mood.
A confidential whisper that tickles the ear.
Caressing the skin with a flick of the hair.
Toasting with wine from a vintage year.
A candlelit dinner for two to share.
There are no rules for being wooed.
You just have to set the mood.
A surprise gift just because.
A warm and loving dialogue.
Aesthetics so pleasing it gives you pause.
Beholding the beauty despite the flaws.
Rekindling a memory for sentimental means.
A melody so sweet it plays on the heartstrings.
An exchange of vows and wedding rings.
Affectionate, loving, intimate things.
There are no rules for being wooed.
You just have to set the mood
Foolish Foodie
You tried to trick and scam me
You wanted to biscuit and ham me
I noticed you can't stand me
But you're always quick to Yes Ma'am me
Choking on you like bitter candy
Cause your style is beginning to cram me
You're begging to hold me and
