    When I was little, food was the focal point of my day. I thought about what was for lunch while eating breakfast, what was for dinner while eating lunch, and what was for breakfast the next day while eating dinner. And let’s not forget snacks and desserts in between to bide my time! Some things never change.....

    My Grandmother, Mae, would cure me with food; if I was happy, she would say Do you want a sandwich?, if I was sad, she’d ask, Do you want me to make you some nice pastina?, if I was crying, Do you want a meatball?, if I was reading or watching television, Do you want some ice cream or anything, honey? How about a glass of milky do?, you get the idea. I lost my Grandmother when I was 16 years old, the end of August, 1981. She taught me love, and food was her way of making me feel better. Better about anything, good, bad, or indifferent. It was what she had to, and could, give me.

    My Mother did the same. She gave me many things, abstract and concrete were these, as I am able to make the abstract concrete....taking the memories, and somehow, giving them realness that I can see and experience again and again. With my Sweetie, food was always celebratory as well. My favorites were always an ask away. And now I do the same for my son.
