“We need to celebrate the seasons, when produce is at its best! When strawberries are in season, you can really tell – they’re a deep red, they’re full of flavour and they have this beautiful perfume.”
Shane Delia loves the spring, and he’s certainly not afraid to show it.
“I love it when spring comes!” he says with his trademark grin. “You break away the shackles of winter, and you start to smell something fresh in the air, like the promise of tomorrow. It gets me excited.”
Delia, who grew up in a Maltese migrant family in Melbourne’s western suburbs, learned how to celebrate the seasons through his grandparents.
“They were passionate about growing fruits and vegetables at home,” he says. “They were real lovers of the seasons. You could often find my grandfather outside, just looking at his plants. He was so proud of his plants. I mean, he worked really
