    Chapter One: Slugs, burps and a poison toad

    Figaro Stone, the cat detective, sat on the front room window sill of the house near the village green and cleaned his fluffy tortoiseshell fur as he watched his two best human friends in all the world eat their breakfast and watch television (at the same time) before they got ready for school.

    Then he heard a loud BURP from under the hedge and looked down to see his partner in crime-solving crawl into view.

    Morning Harrison, he said, What are you doing up at this time? Thought you’d be heading for your burrow under that old root you call home.

    Just out for a spot of breakfast, croaked
