THE LAST WORD
DEDICATION
This book is dedicated to the memory of my brother Christopher Cox, who died at just 21 years old, and has inspired me to live every day of my life as though it were my last.
And to my father and co-author, Michael Cox, a man who inspired so many and has left a legacy of knowledge and inspiration across the world, I am proud to continue his journey.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Many people have contributed to the writing of this book. The thousands of people who have attended the seminars and presentations at which these ideas were developed; the clients across the world who book us year after year; the people who, through their friendship and love, continue to inspire and support us. And the wonderful family we have, who listened to the embryo ideas and who always criticised constructively.
This book is an amalgam of two sets of experiences, and two generations of business and life experience. My dad, Michael Cox, spent over 40 years working across both business and personal development arenas. His list of clients was impressive, and on his death in 2009, tributes to the tangible positive changes he made to so many, flooded in. I was lucky enough to have his love and guidance, both as a business person, and as his daughter, and remember growing up knowing that there was one over-riding goal in my life - To positively impact as many people as possible during the course of my life.
Special thanks to my mum, Mary, who has always been the engine of stability running behind our family. I was blessed by a set of parents who loved each other, and us kids, unconditionally.
Thanks to my brother to Christopher, who was killed in an armed robbery in South Africa at just 21 years old, and left a gaping hole in our family. His loss is still felt daily, but his contribution towards our family, and all of his many friends, still remains. His sense of humour, loyalty, love of life, and left-field way of looking at the Universe is unforgettable, and we have all learnt to appreciate how precious each day we have is. We only have the present to make a difference, and it is in the constructive use of our today that we are able to change the tomorrows of so many people for the better.
To my husband Keith, who is a fabulous soul-mate, business manager and friend. We have lived through so much together, ranging from the depths of despair to the joys of success, and no matter what, our love for each other and our family has never faltered.
And to our lovely children, Rachel, Declan and Louise, who give us our purpose and make us proud every day. May your lives continue to unfold and surprise you with all the opportunities and experiences that are waiting for you to reach them. We are privileged to watch your journey.
And to our lovely grandchildren who are like little rays of sunshine.
We love you all very much. Our sincere thanks to all.
WHAT IS SUCCESS?
Let's begin with a definition of success. It is important to do so because there are so many different definitions that the average man or woman can be easily confused.
There are some who define success in purely monetary terms, and that is understandable because it is measurable...you are either well off or you're not!
This is, however, very limiting as there is much more to life than money. Not that money isn't important. It is, and we will look at that aspect a little later.
The definition that I prefer and which, when you think about it, is the ideal one, says this:
SUCCESS IS... LIVING YOUR LIFE
............THE WAY YOU WANT TO
Now, stop and think about that for a moment. Are YOU living the life you want to live? Are YOU doing the things you want to do and know that you can do? Probably not, otherwise you wouldn't have bought this book or attended one of our seminars.
The truth is that you are probably COMPROMISING. Making do with what is available and putting up
