Dedication
To all the people I watched who gave me thoughts of life and living.
Foreword
Some how to me, this has become a trilogy of books. The first book of life lived, the second of being old and the third of looking to death.
These are not over shadowing themes just thought that ran through my mind.
Preface
I am told that I am a philosophical poet. And I suppose that I am in that I want meaning in what I write. I want people to think and feel about m poems and the world
Outsider
The people come
In total silence
Glaze never wavering
Eyes without welcome
They gather around
Quietly watching
They want you gone
You’re in their place
You’re not one of them
And never will be
Words are not needed
No need to speak
The message is given
It is time to go
Move on once more
Endless travel
No place is home
In no place welcome
President
There people who are very sure
That they are meant to lead
They their answers are the best
That everyone should agree with them
And get quite upset when they don’t
Others often feel differently
They want to help others out
They like to sit and listen
They truly want to understand
Help others do their work
In peace and harmony
One wants it all their way
The other wants only to help
Neighborhood
There was a day
Long ago
Then we knew
Who our neighbor was
They were friends
And we were close
And we would
Help our neighbor out
They were there
In our need
You could always
Count on them
Those days are gone
Now we don’t
Ever know their name
And never talk
A neighborhood is
Just where we live
Rows of strangers
Living alone
Braver Man
He lived hard
Lived fast
But luck was
Rarely his
He got hurt
Many times
And with time
The pain grew
Till one day
He did do
Some act I
Could never do
Took a gun
With one shot
Stopped the pain
Made it end
That I could
Never do
He was
A braver man
Preside
Here and there
Along the way
People have thought
I should lead
But with much
Common sense
Thought that I
Should not do it alone
So I have had
A number of men
Who were there
To help
The very best
Work quite hard
And hit the ground
Running fast
Learn the job
Very fast
And yet right
To do it
And then was
Lesser men
Who needed just
A little push
To get them
Start off
And now and then
A little direction
And then a few
Who’d say they will
And here and there
They did it
And at last
There were a few
Who simply
Never did
Those who said
They would do
And then they
Never did
The best are
A joy to have
The others
Not so much
Layers
At a glance
I can see
There is something
I want to see
It is under
Many layers
It is hidden
From my sight
There are hints
Of each layer
There’s a hint
Of what’s beneath
I want to
Remove the layers
I want to
See what’s there
I wish there
Weren’t layers
Hiding what
I cannot see
Ball
I throw the ball
My dog watches
Get the ball say I
And he walks after it
Get it boy I shout
He keeps walking
Come on boy!
You can do it
As I watch
I start to wonder
He is after it
Isn’t he
What if not
Maybe just walking
Not playing
Just walking away
Not after the ball
Not going to play
Not going to play
Just walking away
Normal enough
Not bad looking
Not pretty though
Not too tall
Nor too short
Not to honest
Not to bad
Friendly
If after something
Helpful
If it helps her
Attractive
Went in need
Backstabbing
To get ahead
Fawning
To the powerful
Lying
When she can
Sharing
Went she must
Loving
Of all that is powerful
Searching
I travel searching
Looking every where
Finding no trace
No tracks or spoor
There seems no prey
Hurt without fruit
Need will be unfulfilled
Hunger grows daily
Weakening the tribe
There must be
Some thing found
Some thing for all
To dull the need
To end hunger
Bringing some hope
Still I hunt
Seeking searching
Where is hope
To help the need
Of the tribe
For one more day
Candy store
Here I stand
Nose against
