Looking back - William A. Kofoed
Preface
I started printing these books to have my
poems bound together nicely instead of just a collection in a three ring binder somewhere.
When I started I never dreamed I would in time become a published poet.
And still as I write this I don’t believe these books of mine will ever sell
Gaia’s Crown
Rooted in Gaia dark and deep
Mother of all that lives
It gathers power strong and old
Forces that all living share
And with water fresh
From which springs all
Grows upward to the wind
Air that all living breathe
And with Fire given spark of life
Spirit that burns in all
Mixing earth and Water and air
Grows to rise high above all
Into the light of sun
Gaia own fire
Home to birds and those that climb
Shades for all upon the ground
Fruit for living to share
Gaia gifts for all that lives
Crown of green in the sky
Sitting still
Sitting still in deep thought
As my heart longs out for you
For the comfort the fills my heart
Then you are here at my side
That my arm around you holds
Face within your hair so soft
Breathe together two as one
Hearts that beat as like a bird’s wing
Passion, which always does grow
When together we are as one
Still yet now I sit alone
My cannot you now hold
Your heart beats not at my side
Memories are now all I hold
Till with joy at your return
Your face again I will behold
We will touch then again
And again we will be as one
Teach the Children
As we live every day
All we do and all we say
Watched by eyes young and new
Learning what they will say and do
Formed to be much like us
Their life is shaped every day
It will not be learned in school
But in our life’s they will be taught
In our home their world formed
That they think and how they judge
All the people that they see
They will see just as we
As we live and as we do
This is how their life will be to
My Words
Long ago when I was young
Lived in a duplex, my friend too
Together we spent much time too
Growing and learning together us
And had I little care of the words
That we shared and together used
Then I started school
The teacher told my parents curl
She had some bad news
My words by then were very bad
When spoke I you could not understand
Many long years at great expense
Doctors taught me some words to use
This did not my schooling help
Trying to learn the right way to spell
And other children were very cruel
So my life was very hard
My best friend then was me
So alone I chose to be
Now my words are quite good
Though some what quaint and out of date
Forced Short
Structure thought pressed to form
Words with meaning but little else
Measured mainly to pass a test
To have a purpose beyond just that
What are the words I should write
Meaning to give the words I choose
Ice cream suit
I heard a man say
Just the other day
He needed to buy
An ice cream suit
Wow thought I
What flavor
Maybe rocky road
Or strawberry
Even vanilla
Would be fine
You would need
To eat it fast
Before it melted
On you
Sail away
Standing here and looking west
Down upon the water so blue
And the waves on the sea
Gulls do fly over my head
Their cries do fill the air
And the breeze in full of salt
Calls to me to come sail away
Leave behind the world I know
Leave behind my cares
The wide world is there to see
Sailing across the waves
Distance lands and people new
Many things I do not know
All are waiting there for me
Just to go and sail away
Looking into the setting sun
So far beyond this land
Gulls flying back to the sea
Their cries do call to me
Right prevails
In morning light
Before the sun
Both stands
In prayer
Praying that right
Will win this day
For both know
They are right
They stand with God
And all that is right
Their cause is just
And good for all
And in the end
Right will prevail
Neither one will stop
And ask if they
Might some how
Be wrong
That the Lord may
Not agree with them
And that their cause
Be wrong
Their cause be not
His will
So they stand
In the morning light
Each one prays
To win
Knowing that they both
Are right
And that they
Will win the day
Donuts
In truth I must admit
Donuts call out to me
Chocolate or maple
Sugar or glazed
It matters not
At all to me
How can I
Pass them by
Walk on and let
Them be
Surely it is not
A bad thing
To eat one
Every day
A few calories
I may get
But some walking
Will fix that
Just a donut
Or two or three
Every time I go
To the store
The donuts
Call to me
Too many
When a piano
I do hear
Quite often
