Winners and Losers - Dr. Ujjwal Patni

    Failure Does Not

    Mean The End Of Life

As I write this chapter, certain important questions crop up in my mind -

Who is responsible for turning a man into failure, others or he himself?

If one does not utilize the given opportunity, who is to be blamed, others or he himself?

If one is leading an ordinary life despite being capable of carving an extraordinary and eventful life, who should be blamed, others or he himself?

Someone who does work half-heartedly and then he meets depression at the end, who is responsible, others or he himself?

If one is a die-hard pessimist and terribly unenthusiastic towards life, who is to be blamed, others or he himself?

Someone who is complacent and blames the whole thing on destiny, thereby mining this precious life, who is to be blamed, others or he himself?

It is my firm conviction that no other man can cheat you the way you cheat your ownself. No one else is responsible for your failure except you yourself!

After facing few debacles and failures, one falls victim to inferiority complex and turns into a coward. He is unable to see that success and failure are the two sides of the same coin. And also that they are an inseparable part of human life. He can’t even find the causes which bring his downfall so he brands himself as a loser. He starts believing that he was born to be a loser and that others are much better than him.

Friends, I do not intend to delve deep into the reasons for mishaps and failures. I just want to tell you that despite every-thing that happened to you, however much an undesirable life was meted out to you, your world has not come to a dead end, a stop. Your value as a human being is still intact and unsevered. Nobody has the right to dump you as a piece of junk, nobody at all.

You can again reach your goals, you can be firm footed in your convictions. Your past is meaningless to me, what is important is your vision of the future. I can cite examples of numerous people who were written-off by the world. They were a scorned lot but it was their determination that aided them to find their wings. They were eulogized by the same people who had criticized them earlier.

No night is so dark that can hide or enwrap the sun forever. Gold remains gold despite being smothered by dust!!!

If you are opting for a life, unworthy and helplessly caught in the twists of fate, then it is beyond me to help you. If you are scared because of your past foibles and experiences of imperfection, you need to wake up, search within, look into yourself and drive away that sense of in-effectuation. You will be surprised to see that there are innumerable things which you can perform with elan and ease! If you take the trouble of looking around yourself, you will find many people who lack capabilities like yours but are far more contented, happy and well-off.

How can you afford to be unhappy? If this world has people who are merry, why can’t you join that group? If others are doing well, so can you. Failure does not mean that your value has diminished.

During a workshop, I took out a one thousand rupee note from my pocket and asked everyone as to who would like to take the same? Everyone raised their hands. Than I folded that currency note times and again and then again asked all presents as to who would now like to have it? All of them again raised their hands. Now I threw that note on ground and put lot of dust and dirt over the same. With full zeal, I now asked, ‘Is there anyone here who would like to take this note from me even now’? I was so surprised to see that all present were still interested in taking that note from me.

Now I told them the theme of this exercise. A thousand rupee note, in however bad condition it may be - it’s value remain as one thousand rupee only. Friends! just like that, you can not lose your value even if you have undergone multiple adversities and fell down many a times, provided you value your ownself in your own eyes,

The burning question is, do you want to live a life of self- respect? If yes, then free yourself from the chains of your past, maintain a decently high opinion about yourself and kick-start a new life in a new light. Stop making excuses, get rid of insignificant words like lose and win!

Just pledge to yourself— "I will do what I can do,

putting all my strength and passion into

    that work"

This would help you to cease worrying since the results would prove beyond your expectations. Now the circumstances would bow before you because this world worships the rising sun.

"We always think about what we don’t have,

We seldom think of what we have."

    …. Dr. Ujjwal Patni

    Boon Or Bane?

Man proposes, God disposes. People whom we trust, mostly deceive us and people with whom we have no expecta-tions, often come to our rescue in odd times. Incidents about which we feel so bad and take them as misfortune, in many cases turn out to be ‘blessing in disguise’ & vice versa. At many occasions in our life, when we look back in retrospection, we get confused as to that particular incident was a boon for us on a bane.

This is a true incident that happened with my friend in Mumbai. He had to attend an important meeting and he reached the station. Knowing the condition in Mumbai, somewhere in the midst of that maddening crowd trying to get into the local train, he lost his spectacles. No sooner he got down to pick them up, the unrelenting crowd pushed him back and he was left behind at the station. He couldn’t board the train. He struggled hard to get in but just couldn’t. He was too irritated as the next train was pretty late. It was with great difficulty that he had fixed up that appointment, but now, he was helpless. He was blaming the day for the mishap. In a short while, he came to know that there was a bomb explosion in the same train which he had missed and many people had died in the same. He was absolutely dumb-founded when he heard that. Just a moment ago, he was grumbling and complaining and now he was shell-shocked! He couldn’t utter a single word! This was the day he marked as the beginning of a new life.

MISSING THE TRAIN - A BOON OR A BANE?

World’s great orator Dale Carnegie wanted to be a football player. But due to his height, he couldn’t get the desired opportunities and so he dropped the idea of football totally. He would always complain to God about his shortcoming. He regarded height as an inadequacy but later his own fame and reputation as a author & speaker reached tremendous heights!!

    THE INABILITY TO PLAY FOOTBALL

    BOON OR BANE?

Once a king went hunting with his minister and other people. Suddenly a pointed, sharp thistle cut off his finger. His minister consoled him by saying that may be God willed it so and it was a part of His design, so it could even be a good omen. This was no consolation for the king. Highly annoyed, he ordered the minister to be put behind bars.

He argued that the minister would be set free if nothing untowardly happened to the king and he would even be weighed in gold. But if there was a mishap, the minister would be impris-oned for life.

The next day, the king lost his way in the jungle and landed in the midst of a tribe. They were preparing for a sacrifice and were overjoyed to see the king. They had found the object of their sacrifice. As they led him to the altar, one of them noticed the decollated finger of the king. He cried out loudly that the goddess would be offended by such an execution. It was this deformity that proved a life- saving grace for the king.

    FINGER CUT…..BOON OR BANE?

Friends, many a times there are such incidents happening in life that we want to cry our whole life out for them. We feel that everything has ended for us. We start questioning the intentions of God and are intrigued as to why we have to face these innumerable hindrances!

WHAT TO SAY…. BOON OR BANE?

You have all heard the old adage, Whatever happens, happens for the good! Now you have to start believing it. When your sincere and devoted efforts don’t pay off, you must analyze the reasons for that and find out the solution but you should never consider everything finished, the simple reason being that God has planned a better design for you and has a brighter fate in store for you!

You have to stick to one promise Work hard determinedly in the right direction. You need to work, results will follow automatically. Any such problem that bogs you down today might open the door of glittering success for you tomorrow.

What happened, why with me only, if only it had been the other way, and, why me? You will have to dump all such thoughts because the bane of today can turn out to be the blessing for tomorrow and vice-versa.

When Dawood Ibrahim was in Mumbai, all his distant relatives proclaimed to be his near and dear ones. He wielded power over the entire city and this helped them to get their things done easily. Mumbai bomb blasts turned the scenario upside down. The police had sealed his entire property and almost all the relatives were put behind bars. The same person now was the cause of their downfall.

This simply goes on to say that the things in life which you term unwelcome and believe to be jinxed, those same things might change the face of your future. So please believe in the will of the Supreme Being! Give your 100%!! Do single- heartedly whatever you are doing!!

    Companionship

    Leave Or Choose

The heights you can reach in life are strictly decided by the company you keep. Man cannot choose his family, but he can definitely choose his friends.

It is said that if you are mentally strong and powerful within, then you cannot be misguided by the wrong people. If you are trodding the right path, no one can mislead you. I personally feel that you certainly develop the traits of the company you move in. Slowly and gradually you pick up the strands of their conduct. Though there are some who can maintain their integrity despite the unfavourable company, although they do have to face the consequences. But most of them get influenced by the bad company.

May be you are not involved in the theft that your friends committed, but even then you would be suspected when the time comes. If your friends are pessimistic, slowly you will also be infected by that. If your friends are held in ill-esteem in society and are dubious, you too would be looked upon with the same eyes. It would be impossible for you to convince the world that you are not a part of their notorious designs.

If you want to go to Delhi, you have to board the Delhi- bound train, not Kolkata bound. Similarly you have to be with those people who share your interests, pursuits and ambitions so that you are able to attain all that you desire and aspire for.

LEAVE THE COMPANY OF SUCH PEOPLE

Who deceive others and claim loyalty to you.

Who spread rumours and talk ill of the people behind their back.

Who are anti-social elements whom the law wouldn’t spare.

Who do not respect their parents.

Who have a negative and depressing approach to life, and build up a state of fear prior to any task.

Who want to drag you into the whirlpool of their misdeeds.

Who never oppose your wrong doings.

    Who understand the
