Biography of the Author “Scott Bolinger”                                                                                                                         I grew up in Alliance Nebraska. Graduated from Hemingford Nebraska in 1987. After High School I joined the US Airforce and was stationed in San Antonio Texas for basic training. I attended Tech school at Sheppard AirForce base in Witchatafalls, TX. My study was in Civil Engineering as a “structural specialists.” I was stationed in Zweibrucken Germany after tech school and assigned to the “26 Civil Engineering Squadron.” There, I received my structural technician certification. After I was honorably discharged from the AirForce I joined the Army National Guard that was based out of Alliance Nebraska. The Alliance unit was a howitzer unit.      I studied Business management, information technology, motorcycle mechanic, welding, realty, fitness and Nutrition. In 2018 I decided to go back to college and get a Bachelor of Science degree. I went to college at the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a major in Political Science and a minor in Criminology with a concentration in government affairs and civic engagement.         I started in politics around 2003 by volunteering as a Planning Commissioner. From that, I seen how our local government was being run and seen some grey area politics. The way they treated the people was not something I would do. The way the government was ran did not feel quite right. Seeing my own city council trying to take peoples lands in a very unethical way, spurred me to run for office. I felt that we needed people in office that were there to help people. To make sure they know that they have someone who will fight for them.

Officials Training Book for Combat Sports - Scott Bolinger

    Opener:

This book will cover a standard self-defense, standard set for running any combat sports event, and it’ll go through rules and regulations for Muay Thai, full contact kickboxing, continuous point fighting and MMA.

Setting up a good self defense is half the battle in any fight.  In most of this self-defense course we learn to defend without having to use any strikes. There are some techniques that do require strikes, that is the last resort in any self defense system.  In true self-defense you protect yourself and set up a way to be able to escape the situation. A defend to set-up to get away, can also be changed to a set up to counter attack with a strike or move into a reverse or restraint.

There are different variations of what people consider self defense and a lot of schools promote their art such as Tae Kwon Do, Karate, jujitsu ...etc. as teaching self defense.  Were , in those arts, there may be some self-defense moves in there, but those arts teach primarily to attack and not necessarily to defend. Either way, learning any art increases your awareness and ability to react to different issues that may come up.  In most cases you would not be able to use those skills in a profession. In a profession such as a Human service job, maybe working with troubled youths or working in a rehab center, or as a bouncer, law enforcement officer, teacher, or officiating at sports events, you would only use a defensive tactics with no strikes and joint manipulations or minimum joint manipulations.  However, in law enforcement there is a great deal of flexibility on what they can do to a hostile person, there should be a protocol on what should and shouldn’t be used depending on the circumstances.  Learning some proper self-defense and de-escalation techniques could help decrees the possibility of someone getting seriously injured or killed.

In any case, learning a art ends up being a good confidence boost and you’ll be able to handle different issues, more professionally and with confidence.

This program was designed to instruct and qualify combat sports officials and security personnel but the self-defense section has been useful in several jobs such as law enforcement, human service, security and has created a extra course for martial arts businesses.  The first chapter will be a standard self defense course and the other chapters are on rules and regulations of different combat sports.

The self-Defense portion of this book is written as if you were teaching a class.  Each technique will state how many times you are to do the technique before you switch to the next technique. However, you should feel comfortable with that technique before moving on to the next.
