There’s A Burning In My Soul

Baby, please calm down! shouted Shade as she ran towards Kingston. She stepped over a few pieces of shattered glass that were all over the floor.

We’re going to figure out what’s going on!

I don’t understand how dis could happen! Kingston raged.

Planes don’t just fall out of the fuckin’ sky, mon!

He walked over to the door and punched out one of the windows on the side of it. His fists were bloodied from him going around punching the walls and windows. He took off down the hallway toward the library with everyone running behind him. Shade was concerned for her husband, because she knew what type of pain he was feeling. Palms was on the plane with George and Mary, too. She didn’t want anything to happen to her mother, either.

Kingston… baby, take some deep breaths, suggested Shade.

This isn’t helping the situation and we still have guests out back. We don’t want to alarm everyone with what’s going on while you’re upset. You know people will get riled up if they saw you out of control like this!

Shade caught up to her husband and grabbed his arm. She stopped him abruptly and placed her hands on his cheeks. She stared deeply into his helpless eyes and kissed his lips.

It’s going to be okay, baby. We’ll find them, she reassured him.

But… both of my parents are missing, Kingston groaned.

My mama, Shady… If anything happened to her—

Shhh… Shade cooed. Kingston placed his forehead on top of hers and tears ran down his face. The news of his parents being missing rocked him to his core. They could be dead as far as he knew. He was a cyclone of emotions, and rage was the first to show up to the party. He tore up the front foyer of the house, destroying all of the furniture and finishings in the area. He broke the large vase that sat on a mahogany table across from the front door. There was glass, water, and flowers scattered all over the floor, with pieces of broken furniture riddled throughout as well.

Kingston, you need to get yourself under control, mon, Michael encouraged.

I have to have your head completely in the game. Now, I know this is a fucked up situation, but the woman I love is with your parents, too. I’ve waited too long to get her back, so I’m determined as hell to find that plane.

Kingston looked over at Michael and John.

We’ve already been in touch with some people from the Federal Aviation Administration, John explained.

We know a couple of people who work there, and I notified them of the missing plane.

They’re going to send us a report of where the plane actually went missing, Michael added.

They didn’t make it too far away from the island. According to the air traffic controllers in Florida, their plane didn’t make it to the states.

Do you think it crashed in the ocean? asked Kingston.

I sent a search and rescue team to survey all the surrounding areas. They will do an air and ground search to see if there was any wreckage floating about. I told them to take two divers with them in case we need to search under water.

Oh my God, whimpered Shade. Kingston pulled her in close to him. He had to pull himself together for his wife.

Okay… We need to notify the staff to start packing our things. We need to go to Jamaica, immediately, Kingston declared.

Baby, I can’t go to Jamaica, said Shade apprehensively.

I can’t just abandon Mike and Cali. She relies on my help to take care of Mike. It’s not easy being pregnant and taking care of another person.

I need you with me, Shady. I have to keep a close eye on you and the kids so that nothing happens to you, Kingston replied. Shade looked up at her husband warmly.

I need you with me, mon, to keep me leveled.

Baby, I understand your concern, but I’ve got this under control. I ain’t no scary bitch, and I refuse to live my life in fear. If a muthafucka wants to kill me, then come with it! I’m going to give them one hell of a fight! Shade snapped.

I think you should come with us, too, said Michael.

Kingston needs to have as much focus on finding George and Mary as he can, and not be worrying about you.

Shade turned and looked at her father.

You may not know this, but I’m quite capable of taking care of myself. I’ve done it for quite some time now, Shade replied sarcastically.

I’m not saying you can’t take care of yourself, Shade, Michael countered.

All I’m saying is that Kingston needs to be focused on the search and rescue. Having you with him would be best.

Kingston put his hands on Shade’s shoulders.

Baby, I can’t risk anything happening to you, Shady, mon. Who’s to say dat my parents’ disappearance doesn’t have something to do with a bigger plan? We have enemies in a lot of places.

I think LeCroix has everything to do with this, said John.

George was a bit worried about LeCroix and how he had gained so much momentum, so quickly.

It’s apparent that someone is helping him, Kingston added.

I remember Chauncey saying something about reuniting with his real father and making everyone pay for the disrespect they have caused to his family, Shade explained.

Could Chauncey have funneled money to LeCroix to help get things moving? Now that LeCroix knows that Chauncey is dead, he’s decided to move forward with their plan.

That sounds about right, John agreed.

We need to move fast and get back to Kingston as soon as possible.

Leo ran into the room with his gun in hand. There were five other security guards with him.

What’s goin’ on, mon? asked Leo, breathing rapidly.

    There’s stuff thrown everywhere!

My parents’ plane has gone missing. Shady’s mother was on there, too, Kingston explained.

My God! We need to get to Kingston, right away, Leo declared.

I know, and we’re working on it, Kingston agreed.

I need you to stay here with Shady and the kids. I’ll give you two weeks, Shady, but after that, you all are coming to Kingston with me.

Okay, Kingston. If that’s what you want, Shade replied.

That will give me time to put some things in place to help Mike and Cali.

I think Big Mama needs to come with you when you come, Shade, Michael suggested.

She’s just as much of a target as you are. If you disappear without anyone knowing your whereabouts, then they’ll try to do something to her to flush you out.

Your father is right, baby, said Kingston.

We need to move Big Mama into the house temporarily. I know she’s not going to like it, but if we tell her it’s to help you out with the kids while I’m away, she’s probably going to be more apt to go along with it.

    I agree, Shade replied.

She does need to be close to me. I can protect everyone if we’re all together.

I will make sure nothing happens to anyone, mon, Leo assured Kingston.

And I won’t let Shade hype me up to do someting crazy.

Shade looked over at Leo and smirked.

I beg your pardon, Leo, smiled Shade.

I never talk you into doing anything crazy, mon! That is a conscious decision you always make on your own.

I have no choice, Shady, mon! If I’m supposed to protect you, then I have to go along with what you say or do, Leo explained.

This is true, Leo. So… where’s the problem? she smirked.

Shady, you’ll need to be on your best behavior, Kingston fussed.

We can’t afford to have any more shit jumping off. I have to stay focused on the task at hand. I need to find our parents and get them home safely, mon, he said. Kingston walked over to the desk in the library. He picked up the phone and called to the servants’ quarters. He told his butler to prepare his luggage because he was leaving for Kingston as soon as possible.

Shade walked back out to the party to check on their guests. The look on her face must have told the story, because as soon as she walked up to the table, everyone knew something was wrong.

Why the long face, Shade? asked Mike, concerned.

We just received word… Shade began as she sat down on a chair and stared at her hands. She looked up at her family because none of them were her friends. They were her family and she carried them as such. She took a deep breath and blew it out.

We just received word that the plane carrying Palms and Kingston’s parents has gone missing.

    What? shouted Mike.

Oh my God! Shade, I’m sorry, quaked Baby Doll. She got up out of her chair and walked over to her friend.

Is there anything we can do?

Uh… We really don’t know anything. My father and John have arrived and they told us what they know, Shade explained.

Kingston will be leaving for Jamaica in a few. Me and the kids are going to stay here for a couple more weeks. Then, we’ll join him.

You need to go be with Kingston, said Cali. She grabbed Shade’s hand and squeezed it.

I know, but I need to stay here with you and Mike as well. You can’t take care of Mike on your own. I’m taking Big Mama with me when I leave, so you’ll be basically by yourself, Shade explained.

    I’ll help, Cali, Renee offered.

Since I have my own shop now, I have the freedom to move around a lot more. I could assist you with taking care of Mike and Michelle.

You guys are talking about me like I’m a baby, Mike scoffed.

I’m getting better and can do a lot more stuff for myself.

I can help out, too, Lil Dee added. I’m at y’all house all the time anyway, so it won’t make any difference, he said. Shade looked at her family and smiled.

I love and appreciate all of you, Shade confessed.

I don’t know what I’d do without all of you.

We love you, too, said Al.

I’m going to make sure we come out tomorrow to rework your security system. Kingston and I were talking about adding some things in the near future, but I think I’m going to take care of it tomorrow. Me and my guys will be out first thing in the morning to take care of it.

What kind of updates? Shade asked curiously.

Kingston wanted to be able to access the security cameras at your house and business from anywhere. He had a feeling that he would be spending more time in Jamaica, so he wanted to make sure he could check on you and the kids, Al explained.

He also wanted me to patch the alarm system into Lil Dee’s hub, just in case something happens. That way Lil Dee and Mike will be up on what’s happening with you. Kingston is very protective of his queen and his children. He wants to make sure you’re as safe as possible.

Especially since I have a bounty on my head, Shade added.

Maaannn… fuck that bounty! snapped Baby Doll.

We gone find that muthafucka, Dessy, and fuck him up!... On West Side Gangsta Crip!

I know that I’ve got my true riders with me.

Shade smiled and she placed her hand on top of Baby Doll’s, which was on her shoulder.

    Fo’sho, Baby Doll replied.

Nobody has time to be looking over their shoulder. You have kids, which makes it even more pressing that we find that nigga!

Kingston walked up to the table where everyone was hovering around talking.

We heard about what happened Kingston, man. You don’t have to worry about Shade and the kids because we’ve got them, Mike reassured him.

We sho’ do, Lil Dee added.

I’m going to come out tomorrow and take care of what we talked about, Al explained.

I should have you up and linked by noon tomorrow.

    Thanks, everyone, Kingston replied.

I’m just numb right now because I don’t know whether my parents are dead or alive, he said. Kingston looked down at Shade who looked weary.

Baby, we’re gonna find them and they’re going to be alive, Shade reassured him. He put his hands on her shoulders and squeezed. Shade laid her head on his hand and grabbed it.

I hope so, baby, Kingston replied.

Only God knows what’s up, but I’m going to find out!

And we’re gonna get that nigga, Dessy, said Lil Dee.

My queen can’t be walking around worried about a nigga trying to kill her.

    Shade smiled at him warmly.

Thanks, lil’ brother. I truly appreciate the love, Shade replied. Kingston looked up at him with an appreciative look on his face. He and Lil Dee had squashed their beef from what had happened at the hospital. He understood why Lil Dee reacted, but Shade was still his wife. He needed to be the one to protect her and look out for her well-being no matter what the situation.

    Working Off Steam

Kingston was restless and couldn’t settle his mind. He saw all of the guests off safely and went to check on all of his children. There was a throbbing ache inside of his head, but the need for blood to be shed was running through his heart. Family was everything to Kingston, especially his beloved parents. He tried to make sense of some unresolved feelings that he had toward George. He felt some type of way about the fact that his father lied and hid things from him about Chauncey. To have them fight to the death for something that was rightfully his, made him question his father’s loyalties. Was what Cynthia said about George being obsessed with Shade true? What would have happened if Shade hadn’t been her crazy disobedient self?

Shade and KJ were fast asleep in the bed when Kingston came into their bedroom. He walked over to the side of the bed with a lit blunt in his hand. He took a hit and let the smoke fill his lungs, then he blew it out slowly. He loved his wife and owed her everything because she came to his rescue. She’s been down from the first time they hung out and she hasn’t missed a beat. The thought of someone threatening to take her life created a deep rage that brewed inside of him. He took another hit of his blunt and his phone vibrated in his pocket. It was a text message from Lil Dee, but it was three o’clock in the morning.

Text Message: Thought you might want to know. One of your houses was hit and I hear Dessy is to blame.

Text Message Kingston: Do you know who it was?

Kingston walked over to the walk-in closet. He walked to the back of it and pressed against the wall. It popped open, exposing a keypad. He quickly put in the code and the back of the wall came open. He walked inside and headed straight to his artillery room. It was located inside of a panic room that he had. Kingston always knew that he and his family would always be in jeopardy, so he made sure that all of his prized possessions would be safe.

When George gave him the house, he had panic rooms installed in his and all of the girls’ rooms. No one knows about it except a few choice people. All of the girls’ rooms are custom made with the necessities for each one of them. There is a computer system in each one that allows them to communicate with one another if they’re ever in their individual ones. Kingston had a camera installed in each one that runs straight to his system in his room. He can also patch into it from his laptop, main frame, iPhone and Apple Watch.

Text Message Lil Dee: Just found out that Kramer’s house was the one that was hit. He set everything up, figuring you would never suspect him. He gets forty percent and Dessy takes the rest.

Text Message Kingston: Got It. Thanks

Kingston and Leo rode down Kings Highway Boulevard on their way to the North Side to go see Kramer. He was one of Kingston’s workers that he had over one
