About this ebook

Emotions are running high now that lines have been drawn. Athena felt vindicated after throwing all of Sable’s clothes over the balcony. Also, she skillfully grabbed a file out of Sable’s safe that had some inflammatory information on Ares. Sable was convinced that it was Athena’s sneaky ass that had come up in her apartment and violated her, so when Sergeant Day came to investigate the crime, and found out Sable was Ares’s estranged girlfriend, an interesting friendship emerged between the two of them, out of Kem’s necessity to get rid of Ares.

Hermes’s affair with Hera is in full swing, and their feelings are starting to get deeper for each other. Hermes is getting tired of Tyche’s self-absorbed attitude, and his actions are making her start to take notice. His behavior has gotten real disrespectful, and when Sable mentions seeing Hermes and Hera coming out of a closet at a gala Tyche had thrown for the holidays, let’s just say, the shit gets real!

Ares is under a lot of pressure to deliver big results on several things on his plate. Royce is still nowhere to be found, and the sudden disappearance of an important book that has all of his and Alroy’s illegal dealings goes missing. The urgency to find Royce becomes top priority over everything. Ares and Athena’s relationship has turned up a notch, and with Sable due to give birth soon, Ares is contemplating suing for sole custody and asking Athena to step in to be his unborn child’s mother. What’s going to happen when truths have to be told, and egos clash between Ares and Athena? Who’s going to win The War of the Hearts?

War of the Hearts 2 - Vivian Blue

    1

Ma’am, could you think of anyone who would want to do something like this to you? asked Sergeant Day. He had a smirk on his face because he wanted to laugh. He’d never seen anything like this except on a domestic disturbance call.

    I … I … I don’t know, sobbed Sable. I have a restraining order against my unborn child’s, father’s girlfriend. She’s a bit mentally unstable.

That’s messy. Has this girlfriend ever physically attacked you before? asked Sergeant Day. Sable sat down on her couch while officers brought her belongings into the house. They were wet from the sprinklers on the lawn that were on an automatic timer.

As a matter of fact, she attacked me earlier yesterday! She dumped her food on my clothes and saturated my freshly flat-ironed hair with her drink. She got arrested, but I’m sure she got out once she made it to the station. Her father is the Chief of Police. Sergeant Day looked at Sable in disbelief.

Are you talking about Athena? he asked.

Why yes! Athena Burgess, to be exact.

So Ares Cooper is your baby daddy? asked Sergeant Day.

Yes. Do you know Ares? asked Sable, curiously.

Who doesn’t know Ares Cooper, Sergeant Day seethed. Do you think that he might have done something like this? Sable looked at Sergeant Day, unsure of how to answer the question.

I don’t know. However, he was very angry with me for getting that bitch arrested. He has an extra key to my apartment, so it wouldn’t be too farfetched that he would do something like this, … I guess, she rambled. But, I don’t think Ares would do this. This isn’t his style.

His style? questioned Sergeant Day. I don’t understand. Ares walked through the door with a strange look on his face. He glared over at Sable and Sergeant Day with a grimace.

What happened here? asked Ares, walking towards them. I saw clothing thrown around the front of your apartment building, and there were some officers fishing a fur coat out of the pool.

Aaaaaa … cried Sable. Ares glared at Sergeant Day then placed his gaze back on Sable.

We have reason to believe that Athena did this Ares, said Sergeant Day.

I know that crazy skank did this! shouted Sable. She’s out for blood since I had her ass locked up!

What? said Ares annoyed. Athena didn’t do this shit!

How do you know that Athena didn’t do this? asked Sergeant Day. Let me guess. She was with you last night? Ares looked at Sergeant Day in disgust.

What the fuck did you just say to me? asked Ares, pissed. Look, bitch ass nigga! I don’t have to tell you shit! Are you about to arrest her? Sergeant Day looked at Ares in disbelief. Did he just really call him a bitch ass nigga?

You better slow your roll before I show you something, spat Sergeant Day.

You ain’t gon’ show me shit, said Ares. What you better do is continue to look around Sable’s apartment, Chief Wiggum, and figure out who ransacked this place! Sergeant Day frowned when he realized he called him the police chief from the cartoon The Simpsons.

Athena’s the only person who could have possibly done this! snapped Sable. I know she did this to me, and I want her locked up!

Sable, Athena did not do this, Ares insisted. She’s in Texas, so there’s no way she could have possibly done this to you.

She could have broken in and done this then left for the airport, Sable argued.

She drove to Texas, and I was on the phone with her the entire time. Oh … and she talked to the chief around 10:30, Ares remembered. He looked over at Sergeant Day. Were there any signs of forced entry?

We haven’t found any evidence of it, but we both know that Athena is capable of picking locks, said Sergeant Day. Ares looked at him in disgust.

Do we? asked Ares, smugly. I know she’s capable of killing a muthafucka and Sable’s ass ain’t dead, is she? So let’s just stick to the facts and leave all the speculation to yourself!

You always have all of the answers don’t you! spat Sable as she jumped up from the couch. You’ll defend that bitch to the bitter end, won’t you!

Fuck this shit! said Ares. I came over here with genuine concern because you called me hysterical, talking about someone broke into your house while you were sleeping. If I would have known it was a witch hunt for my girlfriend, then I would have kept my happy ass at home because I haven’t been to sleep yet! Sable looked at him with an uneasy expression on her face.

I’m sorry, Ares! I just assumed that Athena was the one who done it, whined Sable. She hates me and has every reason to do something like this!

You’re such a fucking drama queen, uttered Ares. You represent people every day and destroy their lives. Your line of work isn’t glamorous, and being a divorce lawyer makes you a target. Especially with the clientele you represent. Sergeant Day looked over at Sable empathetically. He was tired of listening to Ares and Sable go back and forth, so he decided to go assist one of the officers on the terrace.

If you’ll excuse me, Sable. I need to go check something out on the terrace, said Sergeant Day. Ares glared at him vehemently as Sergeant Day walked away from them.

I’m leaving, said Ares. He turned to walk out of the door and Sable grabbed his arm, digging her fingertips down into his skin. She looked to make sure that Sergeant Day was out of earshot before she served up some food for thought.

I know it was that bitch and I can prove it! said Sable, looking around to make sure no one was listening. I checked my safe and the folder that had all of the evidence that I had on you is missing! She nervously covered up her mouth because she had gotten a bit loud. If that isn’t proof enough for you, then I don’t know what is! Ares looked over at the table and saw an empty wine bottle and a glass.

Were you drinking? asked Ares. Sable stared at him then looked at the table.

I had a guest, Sable quickly answered. Tyche came over and we had some girl time because she was worried about me after my ordeal with Athena earlier yesterday, and I forgot to clean up. Ares looked at her questionably. The empty bottle would explain why she didn’t hear whoever was in her apartment. She must have been drunk and passed out on the couch. Don’t try to change the subject, Ares! They both gazed intensely at one another as the policemen continued to move about the apartment. Ares wondered if any of them heard Sable’s accusations. I know that bitch did this, and I’m going to make sure she goes to jail.

I don’t give a fuck what you do, Sable, because I know you’re lying about that empty bottle on the table, Ares shot back. So if you want to keep full custody of our child you’re carrying ... Ares moved in closer to Sable so that only she could hear his words. ... I’d shut the fuck up and be happy that those papers are missing! Sable looked at him with an arrogant look on her face.

Oh! But you must have me sadly mistaken for a dumb bitch, Sable gloated. Those weren’t the only copies that I had of that file, and I have another set tucked away somewhere safe. Ares narrowed his eyes at Sable.

You won’t win, bitch! I just want you to know that, retorted Ares through clenched teeth. And I’m going to bring you to your knees if you think that your little scheme to get me to play along with this bullshit is going to last.

Sergeant, we picked up all of the shoes and clothing, said one of the officers that came into the apartment. Also, we fished some fur coats and evening dresses out of the swimming pool. Sergeant Day walked back inside of the apartment and stared at Sable and Ares.

Noooo! cried Sable hysterically. Ares … You bought me one of those coats for Christmas! Ares looked at Sable un-amused.

Bye, Sable, said Ares, frustrated. He walked away from her and went out of the door. Sergeant Day noticed how distraught Sable was and walked over to her.

What an asshole, said Sergeant Day. I don’t understand what you or Athena see in that guy!

You wouldn’t understand, uttered Sable. He didn’t used to be like that. We were once a happy couple, and I’d hoped that we would get married.

What changed things? he asked curiously.

Athena, Sable replied. However, I thought she was fucking Hermes at first. She seemed to be smitten by him when we first met her at the bar. They were having drinks and I was there with Ares. Next thing I know, Athena’s fucking Ares and I was forced out of the picture.

You can’t be forced too far out of the picture, said Sergeant Day. You’re carrying Ares’s baby.

It’s apparent he doesn’t care, sniffled Sable dramatically. You see he defended her and then left me here all alone to deal with this nonsense!

Well, I’m going to give you my card, Miss …

I think we’re beyond formalities, Sergeant Day. Just call me Sable.

Sergeant Day went back to police headquarters to see Chief Burgess. He was concerned, after talking with Sable, about all the abuse she’d endured at the hands of Athena. Sable told him about how she busted her nose open and some other incidents that she embellished. Sergeant Day felt that Sable was really covering for Ares because he couldn’t believe that Athena could have done all of those things to Sable.

Chief Burgess, you got a minute? called out Sergeant Day. Chief Burgess saw Sergeant Day moving towards him.

Sergeant Day. What can I do for you? asked the Chief. Sergeant Day came up to him and extended his hand. Chief Burgess grabbed it and shook firmly.

Uh … Do you happen to know where Athena is? asked Sergeant Day.

Are you still pining over my daughter, Sergeant Day? laughed the chief. You know she’s dating Ares, don’t you?

Uh … yeah, Chief, but that’s not the reason why I’m asking. I just came from a call from a Sable Peoples, and she believes that your daughter broke into her home and threw all of her clothes over the balcony, he replied. Chief Burgess looked at the sergeant and laughed.

There’s no way Athena could have done this, said the chief. She was on her way to Texas last night to report in. She left the house around 7 o’clock last night. I called to check on her around 10, 10:30 maybe, and she was on the road somewhere in Oklahoma. I believe this Sable woman has it out for my daughter because Ares fancies Athena over her.

Miss Peoples is pregnant by Ares, sir.

I know that, the chief replied. That’s why she’s trying to find some reason to get my daughter locked up. Chief Burgess looked around the office. I’m starting to see a pattern of behavior with this situation. She got Athena arrested yesterday after she showed up to where Athena was having lunch then harassed her.

Sable told me all about it, Sergeant Day mentioned. Chief Burgess looked at him strangely because he referred to Miss Peoples by her first name this time.

So you’re a friend of Miss Peoples? You’re referring to her by her first name, Chief Burgess pointed out.

No, sir, Sergeant Day quickly replied. She told me to call her Sable. Anyway, sir, she was really eager to tell me about all of the things that had happened to her. Chief Burgess was checking Sergeant Day out because he didn’t like the tone of the conversation. He knew that Sergeant Day felt some type of way about Ares because he was dating his daughter. He wondered what lengths would Sergeant Day go to in order to break Athena and Ares up. Would he partner with Sable to bring about demise to the happy couple? How about I keep a close eye on the situation and report back to you whenever I find out something? Sergeant Day proposed.

That sounds like a good idea. If you need anything from me, just ask, Chief Burgess replied. My daughter is the one thing that I love most in this world. He glared at Sergeant Day intensely. And I refuse to let some jealous bitch tarnish everything that my baby has worked so hard to achieve. Do I make myself clear? Sergeant Day swallowed hard, feeling uncomfortable by the chief’s gaze.

    Crystal, sir.

Good, Chief Burgess replied firmly and walked away.

Athena sat uncomfortably on the bench outside the room where she would give her testimony on the accounts of what happened the day of January 16, 2015. She had on her full-dressed uniform, and the material didn’t feel right against her skin; it felt more irritating than usual today. Her jacket was adorned with all types of metals and stripes, displaying her accolades, ranks, and valor. She was nervous about telling the true story behind what happened to her company

because she was partially to blame for what happened that day.

Sable, how are you? echoed a voice off of the high ceilings. She looked up nervously, then relaxed when she put the voice with the face.

General Campbell, I didn’t see you walk by, she replied apprehensively. I’m well, sir, thank you.

I just came out of Chad’s testimony hearing, and according to his account, you guys came down under heavy firing, said General Campbell.

Yes, sir. Bullets were coming towards us faster than anyone could ever imagine. I felt like I was in one of those Chinese Kung-Fu movies where they exaggerate the amount of ammunition coming towards people, Athena replied. General Campbell looked up and down the hallway to see who was around them.

Look, Athena, I know what happened that day and why you guys came under heavy fire. Athena stared at the general blankly because this could be very bad for her. But I think that in order to come out of this unscathed, you’ll have to lie just like everyone else did when you give your testimony.

Sir, I don’t understand, said Athena confused. We both were at fault for this situation. We snuck off from everyone else to go have sex, knowing the risk would be dangerous.

It doesn’t matter, Athena. Sampson is dead, and why should a good soldier lose everything that she’s worked so hard for because her pussy got wet? My dick got hard whenever I was in a dangerous situation, and sometimes I was able to find a whore to release the pressure, but all the same, I don’t want to see one of my top people go down. Everyone knew that the two of you were involved. No one said anything because you guys were able to keep it under wraps when it was important. Now, I’m not saying that you won’t be affected, because you already have. It killed me to see you in that room at the mental ward, and I don’t want to see you go back there. Athena looked at General Campbell with contempt in her eyes.

Have you ever had a person that you loved get their brains blown out all over you, General? asked Athena through clenched teeth. I had to fly for an hour with his dead body lying at my feet, and the contents of his head all over me. Not to mention, the fact that I had to sit for another three hours while they took forensic photos and scraped my … Tears formed in Athena’s eyes as the images of that experience flooded her brain. One tear escaped down her cheek and she quickly wiped it away.

I didn’t mean to upset you, Athena, said the general. I just want you to understand that it would be best to blame the entire incident on Sampson. We’ve told everyone else to say that the reason why your team went to the little house was because Sampson knew that the situation was getting out of hand. You guys came up under heavy firing and you needed to find some place to take cover. Now, we both know that’s not the truth, but I spoke with Sampson’s wife, and she had no idea that the two of you were having an intimate affair. She knew the both of you were really close, and she said he would go to you sometimes when he was having a difficult time coping with things. Athena looked at him sadly.

"But don’t worry, I didn’t bother to tell her the real truth. I made all of the men swear to me that they
