Tin Foil Recipes - Darren Kirby

    Introduction

So often when we cook our meals when camping, or even over the backyard fire, we have a stack of pots and pans to help us prepare the food. This is common because its what we are used to at home. Sure, we have a roll of tin foil in the drawer, but that only gets drug out when we’re cooking a turkey at Thanksgiving or when wrapping up leftover pizza or a sandwich for tomorrow’s lunch. Its tin foil, you can’t use that to cook with, can you?

Oh, my friends, how wrong you are! Tin foil is an excellent vessel to cook with, especially over the campfire. Imagine tossing some ingredients on a foil sheet, wrapping it up and plopping it on the grate over the fire. No other dishes to do, not pots to scrub. And once the meal is done, you crumple up the foil and toss it in the garbage. Dishes are done!

Imagine no more, as tucked inside this book is a unique compilation of recipes that will get your mouth watering. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and yes, desserts too are all included in this recipe book that will become an indispensible item in your camp cookset (along with a couple of rolls of tin foil). And while these recipes are a good start, there’s really no end to the combinations that you can come up with.

This recipe book is unique in its approach for a variety of reasons. First, you will notice that there are no bright, vibrant pictures of the food presented beautifully on colored plates in perfectly setup dining rooms and kitchens. There are a few reasons for this, including cost; getting those pictures shot is a costly endeavor. Also, it would nearly double the size of this book, meaning it would cost you more to purchase this book, and I want this to be an affordable option for everyone; camping itself is inherently cost-effective related to other vacation types, and this book needed to reflect this economy.

Another item that makes this recipe book unique is that we are solely focused on just using tin foil by itself and nothing else. None of these recipes use foil as a liner in a dutch oven or other pot/pan. And I have strived to find the largest selection of recipes that cover all types of meals and ingredients, which provides you with a book that has more recipes dedicated to the use of tin foil only than any other book out there.

Last, not only do we cover the important stuff (food!), but we also cover a variety of related areas to consider when cooking with tin foil, including differences in foil types, and which side of the tin foil needs to face outward (hint: its not what you think!).

So, bust out that roll of tin foil and let’s get cooking!

    Notes About The Recipes

You will notice that in all of these recipes, we use the generic names for the food items. That’s because everyone has different tastes, and just because I like brand X, you might think it tastes nasty and you prefer brand Y. Well, use brand Y then! Experiment, try new things, make new combinations, and just have fun.

Also, a word about the tin foil. You can use whatever tin foil you prefer. Some recipes indicate that the packets should be double wrapped, and some do not. If you are ever in doubt about what you should do, I recommend double wrapping to be on the safe side. This makes it easier to handle without breaking through the foil and causing you to lose some food in the fire itself. And let’s face it, tin foil is not that expensive, so having an extra layer is a good idea, and if the outside layer is still good you might be able to use it to wrap up leftovers (if you have
