    Chapter One

Was something wrong with me? I wanted him to notice me. Was that too much to ask? Why wouldn’t he notice me? He wouldn’t even look at me, much less speak to me. What could I do? Evan Rockwell, the most eligible bachelor in New York, refused to notice me. Even worse, he was always with her. As a last resort, I wore a sexy, black dress to an office party to see if I could get his attention. He not only noticed me, but he asked me to join him and his girlfriend, Britney, for a night together. I declined that proposition, but at a wedding reception months later, I went to Evan’s apartment with both of them. After a night of passion with him, he ended up breaking up with his girlfriend. Then he became my boyfriend. I moved into his apartment. Britney didn’t take it well. She ran me off the road with her car and put me in the hospital. Luckily, there were no serious injuries. After we got back home, he actually asked me to marry him.

Holy crap! I can’t believe he asked me that. He’s proposing to me. Evan Rockwell, the man of my dreams, wants to be my husband. Did Britney actually do me a favor?

    Rachel, say something.

Say something? I’m in total shock. Mrs. Evan Rockwell. That would be my name. Rachel, Britney ran you off the road. Have you lost your fucking mind? She isn’t going to stop. If you two are engaged, she’ll really be pissed off. I don’t care. I want him to be my husband. This is a dream come true. He’s just so fucking sexy. Yes, I want this. I want him. Suddenly, the words just come out.

    Yes, I will.

Oh, Rachel. Suddenly his perfect mouth is covering mine with his tongue so deep inside that it’s touching the back of my throat. Damn, this is getting rather intense. He wants me. He seriously wants me right now.

Evan, you’re so hot. Oh my God, I’m engaged to Evan Rockwell! My fantasy is becoming reality. A Southern girl from Texas is marrying sexy, Evan Rockwell from New York. I’m so lucky right about now.

I want you. Let me have you. I feel his arms go around my waist and pull me closer. I shouldn’t reject him since he’s my fiancé. That would be cruel. Wait.

I need you. Good grief, he’s relentless at this point. Of course I want him, but I need to take a shower. That in itself will be a challenge with this cast on my arm. The doctor said that I’m supposed to rest. That means no smoking hot sex with my horny fiancé. His warm mouth covers mine again, and I feel his tongue circle deeper inside as he pulls me closer into him. Then his perfect lips are on my ear. He’s found my ultimate weakness again. I catch a whiff of lavender and mint in his hair. Christ, he’s whispering again.

Rachel, I love you so much. You look like an angel right now. I know you’re supposed to take it easy, but you freaking turn me on. I want to take you. We’re engaged. I can’t help it. I want you. Please, let me have you.

Evan. I put my hands on his beautiful face and kiss his perfect lips. If this man is testing me right now, I’m afraid I’m going to fail this test. Girl, just go on and fail the test. He doesn’t care what you look like. He wants you. You want him. He’s your man now. It’s simple. Don’t let your hot man down. Let him have you. Maybe I should let him have me. Rachel, you just left the hospital, for Pete’s sake.

Right. Well, I want him. He wants me. We’re engaged. Maybe we need to celebrate for a few minutes. Rachel, if you marry him, he’ll be attending your funeral. She thinks he’s her property. You can’t marry him. She will kill you next time. Damn it, Britney is crazy. She wants him. She wants to be his wife. What do I do? I pull away from him. We aren’t having sex right now.

What is it? I can tell something is bothering you. What’s wrong?

What’s wrong? Britney tried to kill me. That’s what’s wrong. What’s wrong? Britney is crazy. You know she is. I knew what I was getting into when I met you, but I thought she would eventually give up this obsession with you. What if she comes after me again? She tried to kill me. She won’t ever stop.

Well, she’s out of pocket at the moment. I doubt that we will have to worry about her anymore. She’s history.

She still wants you. She’ll stop at nothing. I want to marry you, but I’m afraid the wedding won’t ever happen. She’s so crazy.

Let’s not waste any more time thinking about her. I want us to get on with our lives together, not focus on her. He’s staring at me with those ocean blue eyes and I know he’s right. We have our future ahead of us. The past is behind us.

You’re right. We need to move on.

I lay my head on the pillow and he turns the lamp out. Sleep well, my beautiful angel. I know you need to rest. Doctor’s orders. I won’t push you. I’m here, and I’m not going anywhere. You’re safe now.

Right, I’m safe for now. I’m safe with him. Eventually, I’ll leave the apartment. It’s only a matter of time before Britney shows up again. She’s determined to destroy me. She hates me. I shut my eyes and think about my sexy fiancé. I’m marrying Evan Rockwell. I’ll have the best view in America every morning watching him. The man of my dreams is going to be my husband. No way will I let her win.

    Chapter Two

I love waking up in the morning. My life is absolutely perfect with Evan. I was the desperate woman hoping he’d notice me at the gym. I was the lonely woman staring at him at the office parties. Now, he’s right here beside me. No more fantasies. No more dreaming. He’s mine. He’s all mine. Britney is out of the picture. Is she really? Are you sure about that?

Evan sleeps beside me every night. I’m the woman waking up next to him each morning. Evan Rockwell, the most eligible bachelor in New York City, is all mine! Is there any way I could have a more spectacular view anywhere than the one of him putting on his T-shirt every morning? He’s the best fiancé on the planet.

Could you go and get us both some coffee? I’m having trouble getting out of bed this morning.

Oh really, well maybe we shouldn’t get out of bed yet. I don’t see the big rush. You know it, girl. You want him. I wouldn’t exactly mind a little morning satisfaction before he goes to work. He kisses me and gets out of bed. Crap, I was hoping for a little hanky panky with my hot fiancé this morning. It’s not happening.

I’ve got a meeting with Hanson and Mike at ten this morning. I wanted to get to the gym first, maybe grab some breakfast together.

    Meow.

Thomas, you want your milk now?

Meow. He likes milk in the morning. He’s so spoiled. I’ll get you some milk. I go to the kitchen and get Thomas some milk. The coffee is on an automatic timer, so it’s already done by the time I walk in there. It smells so good. I bring Evan a strong cup, black with two sugars and put it on the table.

I’m not trying to ignore you. You know I love your body. You’re so beautiful. I have to get to the office. Right, he has to get to the office to have sex with his first client. It’s a full out emergency.

Who are you meeting with at the office? Rachel, we talked about this. He’ll be thinking about that threesome activity again to spice things up. I tried to tell you. No, he has an appointment. I’ve got to get a hold of myself. He’s my fiancé. It’s about trust.

Rachel, what is it? You know I have an appointment."

Yes, so is it with a woman?

He’s staring at me. Okay, so I’m jealous. I can’t help it. So what if I’m overreacting right now. Still, he runs a business. He has an appointment. He has an appointment with a beautiful, rich woman. He’s in a hurry to be there with her. They will be alone.

Why do you keep doing this? Why don’t you trust me?

I trust you. I don’t trust any of them. These women throw themselves at you everywhere you go. I know we’re engaged now. I shouldn’t act this way,

What can I do? No, this appointment is with a man. I do see women if they can afford to buy the property. You know that. Yes, I know that.

I’m sorry. It’s all good. I’m fine. If we’re going to work out, let me take a quick shower first.

I head to the bathroom and turn on the water. Where can I put my fabulous ring? It doesn’t need to go to the gym. I take it off and put it on the sink. There’s no reason to wear expensive jewelry to the gym. After I get out of the shower, I put on jeans and a T-shirt. That will be fine to wear for breakfast.

Now, where are my gym clothes with my sports bra? I can’t remember where it is. Crap, Evan has a meeting. I don’t have time to find it. Maybe it’s in the gym bag.

Rachel, you ready, baby? I have an appointment. You know that.

Damn it, I’m moving as fast as I can. I see the bag in the closet.

I’m ready. Let me just get my gym bag out of the closet.

    ****

We head to Le Petit Cafe for breakfast and Evan is all about talking wedding details. I thought he said weddings were boring. Where the hell is this coming from? He’s more interested in wedding details than I am.

I was thinking about a wedding on the beach. Have you thought about it, like where you want to have it?

Oh, well I’ve thought about it. I’m not sure about the beach.

We could keep it private. We don’t have to make it a huge production, unless you want to. Our wedding doesn’t need to be a huge production? This is the first wedding for both of us. Is that not a huge production situation?

What is it? I can tell you’ve got something to say.

Well, I really loved Samantha’s wedding. It was at the perfect location, at least I thought so.

Oh, you want to get married at Moonlight Terrace?

Evan looks surprised. What’s wrong with Moonlight Terrace? I love the beach, but I don’t want to get married there. I really did love Samantha’s wedding. It’s the perfect place. Well, yes. I love Moonlight Terrace, and I want to get married in New York. I loved everything about her wedding, the music, the location, and the flowers, just everything. I was thinking maybe we could do it this summer.

Evan smiles at me. Oh my God, that smile makes me weak in the knees. All right, baby. I want you to be happy. Maybe we go can go to Hawaii for our honeymoon. I smile back at him and we both finish our breakfast.

    ****

We get to the gym and grab our bags out of the car. I put on a black, spaghetti strap tank top and a pair of rather short gym shorts with tennis shoes. My sports bra isn’t in my bag. I have no idea where it is, but I’m working out anyway. I put on my earphones, open my book, and turn on the treadmill. A nice, easy pace ought to do it for now. I see Evan lifting and he looks over at me. He puts his weights down and walks up to me. Is he pissed about something? Why are you wearing that? Don’t you have a jacket or something? I take my earphones off and look at him. What, Evan?

‘You can’t work out with that on. You need to do something.

Everything is fine. Why are you distracting me? I can’t even read. Stop talking to me.

Rachel, damn it. I put my earphones back on and he’s still standing right in front of me. Finally, he turns around and goes back to the weight bench. He’s seriously overreacting and being a control freak at this point.

I keep jogging, but I decide to speed up the pace. A summer marriage calls for some serious cardio. If I’m actually getting married this summer, I need to start burning major calories. Yeah, there’s a small bounce going on up top, but it’s no big deal. I’m sure that no one is noticing it. Oh crap, Evan is noticing it. Damn it, I can’t help it if I lost my sports bra. Great, here he comes. I take the earphones off but keep jogging.

    Rachel, what the fuck?

Stop freaking bothering me. You have an appointment. What the hell is the deal?

You can’t wear that top and jog like that in here. Do I need to get you some gym clothes or something? Isn’t there some kind of sports bra you wear? Every guy here is staring at you, for Christ Sakes. I look around the gym. Yes, every guy in here is staring at me. Oh well, I couldn’t find my bra. Who cares? I put my earphones back on and keep jogging. He’s still standing beside me and he’s not moving. I can read his lips, even with my earphones turned all the way up.

    Rachel, God damn it.

I keep jogging and he reaches up and turns off my treadmill. Then he pulls me down off it.

    Stop it.

    ****

He grabs me by the arm and takes me down the hall. We go into his office, and he shuts the door. Then he locks it. Damn, he’s super pissed. Is he going to spank me? I don’t really care if he does. He’s crazy hot when he’s this pissed off. "Why
