Chapter One
The beginning of the end
Malychii Chi
Wayne
Beauty awakens the soul to act.
(Dante Alighieri)
Chi, do you think you should go out tonight? Maybe instead of you going to your bachelor party, you could stay here with me,
Peyton whined with her sexy, thick, lips glistening in that shiny shit I like to see her in. When my fiancée wanted something, she let it be known. She was sitting on my bed half dressed with her long hair flowing behind her and a sad look on her face. For some reason for the last two days, she has been trying to get me to cancel my plans with my twin brother, Jacari, and the rest of my groom’s men.
They had some bachelor party, my one last night to turn up as a free man, all planned out for me. I promised my soon to be wifey, Peyton, that I would behave myself for my final night out. I don’t even know why she’s making such a big deal about my shindig. I got word that her bachelorette party is tonight in some scandalous strip club that her best friend and maid of honor, Diamond, had laid out for her.
I laid down beside Peyton and scooped her up in my arms. Peyton, you have nothin’ to worry about. It’s just gonna be me and the guys. We’re going out to the club and that’s it,
I said kissing her forehead to reassure her.
Are you sure, Chi? I don’t wanna have to beat you and nobody else’s ass,
she said playfully punching me in the arm.
"I’m the one who should be mad. You’re the one going out with Diamond and your single friends. I already know about you all going to the strip club to get ya freak on for one last night. Baby, I’m cool with you going out tonight. I trust you to behave yourself, just like you should trust me to behave myself. If we can’t trust one another then what’s the point of us getting married?" I asked her staring deep into her dark brown, eyes.
It’s not that I don’t trust you, Chi. I just think we should stay in and do last minute wedding things. Our wedding is a week away and we still have a ton of things to do to prepare. Are we sure we got everything covered? Did we pick the right menu? Are our families going to get along? What if the photographer comes down with the flu and can’t show up on our day to capture our sacred memories?
she said, sending herself into panic mode.
You’ve been jittery for the last couple of weeks. Honey, everything is gonna be fine. We have gone through every possible scenario and we have worked out every li’l detail. Nothing is gonna go wrong so stop worrying,
I said kissing her forehead again.
Peyton had been so obsessed with having the perfect wedding that it was starting to become more like work than anything else. I was honestly ready for the day to come and go so she wouldn’t be so stressed out. Everything in our lives was revolving around this day and I was getting kind of sick of it.
I loved Peyton with everything I had inside of me and I wanted nothing more than to make her Mrs. Malychii Wayne and I didn’t need this grand ole’ wedding to do it. We could have gotten married at the Justice of Peace and I would have been happy. This big wedding was all Peyton’s idea and I only went along with it to keep the peace. If she didn’t have what she wanted for this wedding everyone’s name would have been mud; including mine. What Peyton wants, Peyton gets. It was her way of thinking.
I know, Baby. I just want everything to be perfect. I’m marrying the most perfect man in the world and our day should be equally as perfect.
It will be, but I don’t see how us not going out tonight is going to prevent our wedding from being perfect,
I rebutted. I’m marrying the most beautiful woman in the entire world and it can’t get any more perfect than that.
Maybe you’re right, Chi. Maybe I’m just worrying about nothing at all. I hope you have a good time out with your friends and brothers tonight. Just don’t turn up too much. We have to pick up my gown and your tux and don’t forget about your mother coming over tomorrow afternoon,
Peyton said. Her mind was on the last minute things we had to do and she wasn’t going to be happy until her perfect wedding went off without a hitch.
Peyton hadn’t changed a bit since the day I’d met her two years earlier. She was still vibrant, intelligent, and sexy as hell. My fiancée was everything I wanted and then some. She was a go-getter. Anything she wanted she went after it. Jacari thought I was insane for marrying Peyton because she and I never had been sexually intimate with one another.
Peyton was saving her virginity for her wedding night and I had respected her wishes. We had done some freaky shit to keep things interesting, but we had never gone all the way. Peyton had only agreed to move in with me two months ago. She said she was waiting until the last moment so she wouldn’t to break her vow to God and have sex with me before marriage. I never tried to push up on her and I never tried to sway her. I guess that’s how I knew I had a good woman. She was virtuous and stood her ground for her beliefs. I was attracted to her intelligence and her purity. Sure, it had been hard trying to stay faithful to a woman who was saving herself. I had slipped up and done some doggish shit more than a few times. Fortunately for me, Peyton had never caught me doing my dirt or she would have cut me off with the quickness. I had stepped out on Peyton to satisfy my manly urges, but I always came home to her. I made sure I never mislead any of the women that I had dealt with on the side and I always strapped up. They knew what it was. They respected my boundaries and never stepped outside of their side chick roles. No one got hurt and Peyton never knew I was getting my sexual needs met elsewhere.
I met Peyton in my second year of college. We were in the same economics class and she sat right in front of me. I tried to hit on her the very first time I saw her. I knew the Florida native was worth the chase. Many brothers in our class had tried their hand and the Southern beauty had rejected each of them. Just like I knew she would, she shot me down, but a nigga was persistent and she finally gave me a chance to take her out. I took her to one of my favorite Japanese steakhouses and we were inseparable from that day.
When I brought Peyton home to meet my family everyone seemed to like her, but Jacari couldn’t understand why she wanted to wait and not have sex until her wedding night. He told her he didn’t know how someone could not test drive the car before paying for it. Jacari and Peyton never saw eye to eye on anything, but they tried to get along for my sake. Over time, they got used to one another and their smart mouthing and debating became the norm at family functions.
My parents were the most impressed with her. They were happy to know I had selected a woman of virtue with moral standards, instead of what my mother liked to call a harlot. I think my mother was the only person in the free world that called loose women harlots. I don’t even think I could tell you what a harlot was, but I knew my mother sure didn’t want me or any of my three brothers dating one. My mother was overprotective of her boys and she wasn’t afraid to let anyone we brought home know it.
Peyton kissed me on my lips and I watched as she got up and sashayed away. My dick stood at attention the way her ass moved in her boy shorts when she crossed the room to the closet. I shook my head and tried to think about something else. My mind was in the gutter, but if I told Peyton I would stay home if she were to give me a reason to stay in, she would curse me out, which would lead to a fight. I was avoiding those at all costs so I sat on the edge of the bed and tried to think of anything that would calm my growing erection.
After about twenty minutes, Peyton came out of the closet holding two different dresses in her hands. Which one do you think I should wear? Red or black?
she asked holding up both dresses.
It ain’t gonna matter which one you wear. You’re gonna kill ‘em in either one, but if I had to pick one, I say the red dress. Now, hurry up and get dressed. You ain’t the only one going out tonight. I need to get ready too and you’re hogging both the closet and the bathroom at the same damn time,
I smiled at her as she pouted playfully and went into the bathroom and closed the door.
Since she was out of the way, I went to the closet and pulled out my clothes for the evening. Since I didn’t know all of the particulars of my outing with the guys, I dressed casually in a pair of jeans and a button-up white collared shirt and a pair of casual Stacey Adams. I splashed on some Joop, which was my favorite cologne. My Creole parents had blessed all of their sons with deep waves, a dark bronze complexion, pearly white straight teeth and each of us bore our mothers deep dimples. I looked in the mirror and thought, not bad at all. I was on my grown man shit tonight and I was definitely ready to enjoy myself. I promised myself this was my last night of fun. My last night for a fling and then it was on to the married life. I just hope I was ready for the married life because there was definitely no turning back now.
Chapter Two
Her
Heat cannot be separated from fire, or beauty from The Eternal.
(Dante Alighieri)
Jacari called me and told me to meet him out front. Peyton was dressed and waiting on her girls to pick her up. We both walked out of the front just in time to see a big, bright pink limo pull up. Peyton and I exchanged confused looks and then the door of the limo opened and out popped Diamond and her cousins, Ianthe, and Monet.
Surprise, bitch! Let’s go turn up!
Diamond said rushing up our walkway and placing a sash that read Bride to Be
over Peyton’s head. Peyton was surprised that they had gone as far as they had for her bachelorette party.
She pecked me on my cheek and started for the bright pink limo as Jacari pulled up in his drop top Benz with the music thumping through the autumn air. He was followed by our brothers and our childhood friends. Tonight was about to be a different kind of night. I could feel it and I was excited to see what the night had in store for us.
Jacari’s car blocked the girl’s limo in the driveway. I know you girls aren’t going out to have a good time without us,
Jacari said turning down his music and checking out the ladies. Peyton was the first one to roll her eyes. She knew my brother was a dog. He wasn’t just a regular ole dog either. He was the worst kind of dog. Jacari didn’t believe in anything monogamous. If he could get away with polygamy, I’m sure he would definitely give it a try. Jacari had never been faithful and that’s probably why he and Peyton never got along. The fact that he had slept with almost all of her friends, including Diamond, didn’t help. Peyton and Jacari were polar opposites and that caused them to bicker constantly. Jacari thought I was wasting my youth on marrying Peyton when I should have been out sowing my wild oats.
Peyton thought that my brother Jacari was a direct influence on me because he was my identical twin. Everything he did, she suspected me of doing too. If he fucked a woman and then fucked her mother, Peyton honestly believed I would do the same. They were the biggest issue in my relationship. The two of them couldn’t get along and it just about drove me crazy. I was hoping tonight would not turn into a family feud like it always did when the two of them bumped heads. Tonight was supposed to be about me and Peyton starting our lives together; not the two of them battling one another.
I hugged Peyton and wished her well. She kissed me on the lips and she ran off to join her girls at the limo. I got into the car with Jacari and my two other brothers, Ezekiel and Hezakai, and we were off with the rest of my groomsmen following in their cars behind us.
Man, are you sure you’re ready for this? You got a week to back out of this.
Jacari laughed as he left my block.
Yes, I’m ready. If I wasn’t ready, I wouldn’t have asked her to marry me in the first place. When are you gonna get that through your head? I love Peyton,
I said to Jacari. We had had the same conversation for the last two months. The closer we got to the wedding the more he tried to convince me that I was making a huge mistake.
A’ight man. I’m just making sure. If you say you’re ready, then I believe you’re ready. All I really want to know is: are you ready for tonight? Tonight we are gonna turn the fuck up since this is one of the last times you will be a free man. I hope you party like it’s 1999 out this muthafucka’ because it’s going to be a long time before you get to do this kind of stuff again,
Jacari joked.
Well, let’s go. I’m ready! Where are we going anyway?
I asked.
My brother, that’s a surprise. You ain’t got to do nothin’ but sit back and enjoy the night.
We drove a few miles to downtown New Orleans and headed to Magazine Street. We pulled
